This might be considered obvious, but one of the most important things snipers are doing wrong is that they are by far too impatient and nervous. If you spot an enemy soldier, and be it just 20 m ahead of you, stay calm, go prone at once, aim at his lower head (somewhere around the mouth), and shoot. You'll probably hit him either in the chest, which wounds him heavily or hit him in the head, which kills him at once. Remember, a calm sniper can take out several soldiers even within a small range, if he stays calm.

          Re: Sniping.

Nobody seems to have mentioned this yet, so I will. It requires an unlocked M95.

Ok, let's say that a US hummer drives into your base with a man on the turret, or the driver is killed, or just switches to the turret when he's in your base. Unless you're close, you may have a hard time hitting the gunner unless he's facing away from you. If he's facing towards you so that he's covered by the shield, aim through the windows at his legs.

This can be done through the front and side windows, so you can aim for those legs when the vehicle is coming towards you. This way you'll probably either hit the gunner, or the driver. Win-win shot. If you do get the gunner, odds are the driver won't notice and keep going into your base where you can pick him off when he stops on your flag.

Yes, killing the gunner via the legs will take two shots, unless he's already damaged. But it presents you with a bigger target, and because of the deviation of the M95 you might miss the first or even the second time you fire at his head.

Trust me, the deviation plays almost no factor for the M95. You can hit targets consistently right up to where they dissapear(at around 530 meters, i will be showing this in my next vid).

              WOooo more videos!!!!

I have been practicing with the m95 a bit and seem to have it down for the most part. I got used to the corrections from higher elevation shots down on low level targets quite easily. Now I think the hardest thing for me is to shoot at pilots and crew in a moving chopper. Make a video of you doing this and I will be forever yours (respectfully).

                Re: Sniping.

I've long spoken for the snipers that there is bullet drop, and there is bullet time. So far I've seen a few videos showing proof of bullet drop AND of bullet travel time, but not one to show any evidence otherwise. The key tip ond sniping is: Be Patient.

Your job isnt to fire off rounds like they're candy. That's actually a good way to get noticed, and being noticed is a bad thing. Line up your shot, and shoot the guy in the rear, or the one not paying attention.

If you dont have a good shot, and if you're behind enemy lines and dont want to be noticed, try to wait until you do have a good one. Since BF2 has a damage indicator HUD that shows the direction you got hit, if you dont kill them right away, and if they're observant, they can use this to detect what direction you came from, and with VoIP in (although few people seem to use it these days) they can coordinate a search for you. Best shots are headshots, as if they're down they cant start looking around for you, and have to wait to respawn, and a lot of the time if they're in a squad they'll just respawn on their leader and ignore you. Not all the time though, so keep on your toes.

This is a tip for people helping snipers, whether medics or support giving ammo: Do us a favor, dont jump and run all around us. We're hiding for a reason. If you want to give us medpacks or ammo, dont throw them out. These show up on the hud, and people are going to wonder why there are first aid kits and ammo kits lying around. Even if they dont, hey, they might want some health or ammo, and having them run over to where we are hiding isnt a good thing. So if you want to give us something, go prone, and crawl up to us while holding the kits out. We still get that health and ammo, although more slowly. But the enemy wont be able to notice anything right away.
And for pete's sake, if you're getting shot at, dont run towards us. We'll gladly try and pick them off for you, but it's kinda hard to when people see us and start plinking away.

One more tip for you snipers in squads: Yes, snipers work alone, or in pairs, but we can still function in a squad. Follow your squad, and set up outside a point and go into defensive mode. The sniper's biggest asset is the ability to stay hidden. See that APC coming? Let your squad know. Helicopter nearby? Point it out to everybody. The sniper's skill doesnt start and end with the rifle. Your eyes are the biggest tool you have.

                  Re: Sniping.

OK, some say people often don't hit anything with the M95 because they don't think of bullet drop. But these people should the body or at least hit the legs or feet when aiming on the head. Then they won't complain I guess.
So this can't be the only aiming thing to concern about when sniping.
As well as bullet drop seems to be only a problem on very far shoots.

Bullet travel similar problem. People (me included) often miss standing opponents. There must be more!
I'd like to know more about deviation. My expieriences tell me I should run people into my sights because when doing so, the gun wasn't moved for 1 or 2 seconds and accuracy seems to increase. Same with standing enemys. I aim and (try to ) wait for a moment before I shoot.

Are there any good tipps or EVEN facts about deviation?
Is a absolut precise shot luck? Sometimes you hit where you aim, sometimes not?

                  For example:

                  1. Why _minimum_ deviation? These means to me, you never hit where you aim at. Should be called maximum deviation?
                  2. What's the measurement of minimum deviation? Degrees?
                  3. Why is there no deviation for sniper rifles for standing/crouching/prone? I tought it's a modifier - then it should be "1" or sth like that.
                  4. The Deviation Mod when zoomed... does it have to be multiplied with the angle?
                  5. Does recoil influence accuracy of single shot weapons like M24/M95? And Why is there a deviation added per shot for these guns? 6. When I always aim for the head, the M24 should be my choice since it's deadly too but more accurate than the M95?

The central question to me is, whether deviation is controllable (by skill) somehow or the just the decision of the game engine (=luck)

I hope you got me friends - Im not a nativly speaking english.

                    Re: Sniping.

I think the lateral and vertical deviation is negligable when using the bolt action sniper rifles such as the m24 and the m95. Bullet drop, however, forces you to compensate by aiming a bar or so above your enemy when shooting an enemy that is level or above you and further than 500m or so. To determine the distances between you and your target, I think the best way to do it is to spot your target using the Q key, then open up your map and roughly judge the distance. I have yet to do this, for I typically guess the distance and score hits every once in a while (not enough though to feel comfortable with guessing distance). Therefore I think it is necessary to come up with some feasable method of distance determination such as the map suggestion learned by Zagashi.

                    Hope this helps

                          Some points:
According to the weapon chart the deviation of M95 and the semi snipers is the same (which sucks I think)
And are lot of points of my post are still undiscussed.... c'mon guys

                            Re: Sniping.

I have big trouble sniping. The M95 was my first and only unlock so far (sadly a disappointment) and though I have confirmed bullet drop for myself and try to account for it, I still seem to be unable to hit more often than 1 in 3 or 4 shots.

                            a) I always fire prone
                            b) My problem extends across all ranges, it's not some extreme range problem or anything.
                            c) It applies to moving or stationary targets

Essentially, even when I am perfectly lined up on a stationary target and shoot it STILL does not appear to hit. Tried this on servers where FF is off aiming at my own commander who isn't moving as well as in "normal" play on ranked servers (though not at my own team then )

It's frustrating. I try to vary how I take each shot, such as pausing before shooting, going for headshots, using different weapons etc. but no matter what I try it just doesn't seem to work.

I'm not talking bullet drop - as I've said before I've proven it to myself and I can account for it - I'm just talking general accuracy here. Any suggestions?
