    Sniping.

Due to the lack of sniping guides in these forums I have decided to make a thread deticated to sniping. If anybody has any tips please post, they're much appreciated. Please don't get in a huge debate over the m95 and m24, they both have great qualities.

I also wanted to see if anybody agreed with me on these ideas that i had for the special forces expansion pack, if u agree great! if not...plz dont bitch.
I tihnk there should be more upgrades for each kit like say u dont like the m95 for sniper hey u get another choice. i think snipers should be allowed to get points for spotting ppl and then w/e other ppl kill that person u spotted u get a point, now i realise there is a flaw in this that somebody's about to shoot somebody and u catch right as its about to happen and spot it, well u get a cheapass point. so maybe that one isnt such a great idea. anyways i think that snipers should have better camoflauge. i mean if you're on oman we'll say and ure wearing that greenery **** i dont see how ppl wont spot ya, but thats just me.

    Here are my tips.

I can't stress this enough and niether can the other snipers who have posted DONT GO TO THE HIGHEST POINT that's the first place ppl look for snipers.

Wait for the enemy to come into your sights, i realise this is going to take some practice for most of you but pretty soon you'll be able to get the headshots that everybody seems to want. PRACTICE

Be creative in finding sniper spot, dont go for the one everybody wants b/c obviously ppl are gonna spot ya.

NEVER fire more than 3 shots at one person, gives you away.

these are my tips and id appreciate it if others would give us some tips as well.

i dont quite agree with this tip, its very likely that ur favorite spot will be someone else's favorite spot, true the opponents will be suspicious of that rooftop but that shouldnt be a deterent when it comes to taking ur position. take the obvious spot, try ur best to not be noticed while u take ur position and take at least 3-4 guys out before they take u out. this may all go down in 20seconds, but at least u'll respawn with a very favorable ratio.

-when it comes to taking static positions, when u climb onto a roof for example, dont start scoping ur kill zone immediately, take a few seconds and scan the roof tops and street corners around you and look for targets that may have spotted u while uve been setting up, they'll most likely be prone, find em and take em out first.

-a lot of snipers say to never shoot at moving targets, dont listen to em. those are the snipers that have been shying from shooting at movers, and by shying away from taking those shots, they'll never get the hang of it. bullets have travel time, even ur sniper rounds. aim, lead, fire. u'll get em eventually

-pistol, learn to use it. it is a huge asset. if there was a pistol unlock i'd be all over that thing, but there isnt so we'll make do with our peashooter. 1 m95 hit + 1 pistol round = kill, practice switching to pistol when the target gets too close. if ur worth ur sniper rifle then u wouldve hit em while they approach u, so finish him off with ur pistol.

-when you have the drop on some oblivious sucker, resist the urge to unload ur pistol or knife him. if he isnt going anywhere, take him out with the sniper rifle. this way it is more likely that he'll think that he's been picked off from afar. with that said dont squat next to the guy's corpse right when you take him out, cause he'll see you. wait for his body to disappear before taking the position

If anyone wants a list of great sniping spots for Mashaar City, Fushe Pass, Daquing Oilfields, or Strike at Kirkland and others and you can provide an overhead map of that map (for me to point out the exact location) I would be happy to share if you PM me. I have some very good spots from which I almost never get spotted. And I only need one shot to kill people so getting spotted is almost never a problem for me.

After playing over 100 hours on sniper alone, I have noticed that when I use some of these kinds of spots, I get killed a lot quicker. Spots like rooftops, windows, and on the tops of hills are the first places I look when im sniping. I can get 10+ kills a round just from rooftops kills alone. Places like bushes, ditches, one way alleyways, and under cars THAT HAVE NOT BEEN MOVED SINCE SPAWN, are the best spots.

Sniper is one of the hardest classes to play, that's why there's hardly any. They are vital to the team as well.... Same old tips though.

              Re: Sniping.

I'd like to add that for long distance sniping, the M95, and to a lesser extent the M24 have bullet drop.

Heres 2 videos I've made to show the M95's bullet drop effect. The target is a little more than 400 meters, and I had to use the first bar to hit. The first is the normal video with the shot at normal speed. The second is the same video, but the shot has been slowed.

              Here is normal speed.

              Here is slow motion.

Also when aiming up, say at a sniper in a crane or on a rooftop, the bullet drop effect is increased. And when aiming down on a target, it is decreased(Ive had instances where ive had to put my crosshair slightly below the person to kill them, wierd)

alright .. I thought we esablished that there is no bullet drop in BF2?! There is bullet deviation but thats it. Your video is the first actual prove that there is a bullet drop at all. In addition your last lines pretty much described what I noticed a few times when using anything but the m24 :|:

Anyways ... for my m24 the bullet drop is less than the bullet deviation and thus not realy intresting .. oh and sniping commander?! you are supposed to command ... like droping arty and boxes.

                  Re: Sniping.

Yah i doubted there was any bullet drop at all, until me and my friends where doing some 2 on 2 sniping on Kubra, and I started to notice my shots where landing below my target, so I aimed a bit up, and got a hit.

I dont know the exact mesure of the bullet drop, but i do know that at about 500 meters with the M95 shooting a level target, you must use the first bar below the center of the crosshair to hit(as you can see in my video i was almost lined up with the first bar, just slightly above but thats because the target was only 400 meters away).

And as far as the M95's deviation goes, it doesnt play much of a factor in the rifles accuracy. That rifle can consistently hit targets at 600 meters with the correct judgement of the drop, and thats a range most people would consider sniping to be impossible at, so the rifle is very capable at sniping long range, its just the bullet drop that makes it seem inaccurate.

Actually I believe the M95's deviation is actually its bullet drop, and that the shot deviate downwards 0.02 every x meters.

too risky... unless you're extremely certain that you can finish him off. after being shot at one time most ppl run around frantically trying to see where the shot was coming fomr...but most ppl only have an attention span of 10 seconds b4 they stop looking so after 2 shots wait for about 5 seconds and if they're still or you can make the shot, then take it.
