The countdown had reached zero and he was starting to lose health, that much you can see, but even still his tank shouldn't have blown up like that. In fact I think if you take a vehicle out of bounds and then die in it the vehicle stays intact but blows up later, like any abandoned vehicle would.

I've had this happen in open areas of Zatar, I'm driving a tank and Boom full health to zero sometimes somebody gets credit most of the time it just says I am no more.

I've had this in dragon valley. I drove with an apc into the corner (pointing towards me)of a wall. BOOM

This glitch is as old as battlefield franchise.
Most of static objects on map have dead zone inside them.
If they have not, another glitch comes to play where someone could get in into that kind of object and could shoot out but cannot be shoot from outside.
However, if you manage to get in, even with small part of your body/tank etc, into an object which have that dead zone, you are instant dead.
