Love or Hate Commander "Spotted" Messages?

Hello all you poll fans! I have my own opinion on this topic, but I'll do my best to keep this poll unbiased...

While you are playing, I'm sure you've noticed the commanders "Spotted" radio messages, eg:

"Enemy infantry spotted!"
"Enemy APC spotted!"
"Enemy boat spotted!"

This appears as yellow text in the chat messages, sound (in that tough commander voice), and little red enemy unit markers on the map and minimap.

Now, while playing both commander and in a squad, I have seen people typing chat messages to the commander, something along the lines of "Commander, those spotted messages are getting pretty annoying" or "Will you STFU with that chat spam commander!"

These messages obviously have their place. When there is no UAV available then the "Spotted" command is the next best thing. If there are some units outside of the UAV radius, or sneaking around the back way then the little red icon on the minimap really helps the team track down those little rascals.

The sound is quite annoying however, and there is no way to turn down (or off) the commanders voice.

I'd just like to know everyone's opinions on these "Spotted" messages. The options are:

1 - I love the little red dots on the minimap, and love it when the commander lights up every single unit on the battlefield for us! I don't mind the chat spam at all.

3 - I love the little red dots on the minimap, but think the commander should use it only when it's really needed.
4 - I'm indifferent either way.
5 - I think the commander is a total waste of space. The chat spam is just part of why they suck! Let only the players use the spotted command.
6 - I don't use my minimap, and the chat spam is really annoying. Neither commanders nor players should be able to spot units.

I'm gonna go with #1. Sure, the messages may get kinda annoying, but a commander spotting enemies is just too useful to give up. Its always nice when your about to attack a base, and the commander gives you a good stream of "enemy infantry spotted"'s so you know what you're up against.

That, and its a sign you have at least a half-decent commander anyway. Rarely do you even get a commander who's smart enough to act as a second UAV, let alone one who isn't driving around in vehicles like an idiot.

You should only hear it if you are in close proximity to the spotted soldier. That would make it more context specific and relavent.

When I spam as commander it's only because I want my side to focus on that enemy. For example: an APC heading for MEC base on Karkand. I also use it to search for enemies when UAV and Satellite Trailer are down or to search a flag for a straggler. I find the "Enemy infantry spotted!" crap a bit annoying though, even as the commander. It would be cool to select an area with a dragging tool to indicate that a group has been spotted rather than the hectic spammage of 5-10 spotted messages.

I try to command as much as possible, and I've found a good way to use it is to spot single enemys close to main bases. I don't click all, just ones that are out of reach of the UAV but still a threat too a flag

A UAV only shows a certain area. I'll UAV an area with lots of enemies that a teammate's near, etc. However, if my scan shows a guy sneaking past and out of the UAV area, I'll spot him. At times, I may spot a group of people.

If you don't like the spam, get a commander who follows you into battle.

As a troop, it helps a LOT to know what you can expect, as well as where. Exactly.

Thanks dude, thats a relief. when im commander i often wonder if i am too annoying with my spotting enemy spam.

This is one of many things that makes for a great commander. I dont even hear the commanders spam, it just blends in. Im too consintrated on the action to care what he is saying, but when i see a blinking enemy behind me it sure helps.

Ahhhhh... Thankyou everyone for your replies. I was starting to think I was the only person who actually appreciated the commander spotting units as I ran into a control point. When playing commander I was getting scared to use the "Spotted" feature in case I copped more abuse!

Seeing the results so far on this poll, I'll stick to my opinion that these people who complain are just idiots who don't know how to play the game properly.

Last time I saw someone abusing our teams commander (MP5S - thankyou for being one of those few good commanders!) for the spotted messages, I was so annoyed I had to find a place hide and type abuse back to them.

Personally, I'm like WrAth2110 above, the commander radio messages just blend into the rest of the radio, explosions and gunfire, and they tend not to bother me.

Doctor Doom, that's a great idea about only letting people in the vicinity of the spotted units hear the sound.

Your opinion fits with mine very well.
I especially HATE the sound from the MEC commander when he says "infantry spotted" 5 times in a row, it gives me headache.

I like the spotting, helps make ambushes, but when the sound is spammed 20 times.. Uhh, makes my ears bleed.
