So why are people to shy to talk on mic?

First off this is funny. Because remember all the folks who said people would abuse the mics and start spamming with them? Guess they finally realize not every online game plays out like CS.

Anyways I was playing DoD the other day and people have no problem chatting to each there. Working together to accomplish goals. How come no one talks on BF2? The game needs teamwork! I know there are people who want to see team work. But they don't speak to thier squad.

Come on you guys. Start talking!

And squad leaders! Don't fly jets or camp as snipers up in high places!

Ive noticed that on alot of servers, the VOIP just doesnt work even though the speaker icon comes up, no one else hears your message.

that must be a problem with your computer. Because when I see the speaker icon appear I can hear the person perfectly.

Or perhaps the server turned off VOIP.

I see no problem with VoIP usage. That is, once you start it off.

The big issue is that everyone is too afraid to go "Radio check" or "Anyone here using a mic?". After being in a squad for around 10 minutes, and getting comfortable playing with the guys in it, I'll usually just call a radio check and get 3-4 responses. Those who didn't respond are questioned directly, asking if they can HEAR VoIP. If for some reason they can't hear it, they'll get kicked.

Since nobody wants to initiate it, and since you seem to be the 'brave' one, go ahead and ask if anyone else has a mic.

The MOST fun games are those when your whole squad is using VoIP, as well as the commander.

Um, i have a mic, but i have a question, how do you use VOIP, it would be nice to give orders to squad members instead of just basic commands.

If VoIP is enabled for the server, hold 'b'. You will see a little speaker icon appear below your minimap (to the right). Anyone in your squad with VoIP enabled will hear it. Keep in mind you might need to change mic settings, as BF2 is quite picky with volume and mic boost settings.

If you're squad leader, you can hold 'v' to talk to the commander. This is good for requesting orders, some supplies, or simply to be kept abreast of the situation on the battlefield. If you're commander, holding 'v' allows you to speak globally to all the squad leaders. Select a squad from the left and hold 'b' to talk to just the squad leader of that squad.

If you're not in a squad, holding either button does nothing.

Id normally use it.. but i also have Ventrilo running so i can talk to my clan mates. And quite frankly the VOIP on this game is garbage. When im playing with out my clan mates i sure utilize it every chance i get.. I just wish the quality was much better

Re: So why are people to shy to talk on mic?

Ventrilo, TeamSpeak, and other similar clients have better quality, better codex, and are only slightly system hoggy. They're good for those who have computers that are at least a bit better than the minimum requirements.

Taking full advantage of both VoIP and an external client is best. In both TS and Vent, you can only talk to the channel you're in. Not any other channel, and not to a single other person.

Usually I'll use in-game VoIP to talk to JUST my squad, or just the commander (changed depending on my position). I'll use the external client to talk to my entire team.

Most clans create channels for each squad, but then there's no way to directly communicate with the entire team. You could talk to your squad, and that's about it. Not to mention the commander can't be in all rooms at once. And switching channels in the middle of a game is out of the question.

There's no true single answer here, is mostly on preferences and how picky you are.

I personally prefer sticking to VoIP alone. They way they implemented it is VERY good, and takes full advantage of the leadership structure.

I would use it if 2 or more people are talking in my squad I dont want to be the only dumb ass talking. I have heard a lot of people on VOIP and i could care less how they talk as long as i understand. I did get this one kid that did not shut up he kept on talking and talking about non battlefield stuff. I also don't use it much because I get lazy to hook up my headset or I just can't find it.

Hehe, and there's nothing like being a squad leader on a VoIP-active foreign server, =O

I live with my girlfriend and the PC is in the living room, when she is watching TV she don't mind I am playing , but when I am constantly talking, she thinks I am an idiot

every time i've tried to enable VOIP, i lag horribly. So i just don't bother with it.

i prefer to talk on TS anyway. That way if a person on TS is on the other side, you can talk to them.
