    Dogfighting

What's the best defense when some jerk is on your ass in a dogfight? I usually just pull up, switch to rear camera view and hope to lose the guy in the loop. Sometimes these jet jockeys will just follow you right through the loop and you never can get them off your ass.

I hate them, I really really hate them. They bomb everything and dominate the game, then as soon as you get in a jet to try to stop them they get on your ass and shoot you down.

Spare me the "you suk" comments. I'm looking for real techniques to counter a good pilot in a dogfight. thanks

Try to pull up, then slow down and pull back down (not a loop) ti works 1/2 of the times for me

I just make sure I don't use the after burner. It seems like a good idea to out run them, but in the end you just get further away making it easier for them to lock on.

Also, if you see a friendly helicopter or fighter, just fly near them so they can take the missile.

Use the terrain, buildings to your advantage. Fly low to the ground, or between buildings, trees, smokestacks, or whatever. Hopefully, they'll try to follow and crash. :)

flying near friendlies works....also, if youre USMC and you have someone on the Essex, head towards it and hope the guy takes after the other jet...

1 little trick - in the F35, climb straight up, Mr. J10 will be more than happy to show his power coming after you...as you get up, let off of forward and hit back, the F35 won't stall, he'll fly past you, and you're in position to either get away or chase him down...

I'm not "yet" a good pilot, what i do is try to confuse him with some unexpected maneuvers rolls, semi-loops, etc., and allways slowing down ur plane, till he passes u.
Also u should study some techniques, there's one, a like alot (can't remenber it's name), Use it when possible... go away (afterburn+down a litle to get max speed) then do a long turn to he's side then a strong slowing down to get his ass.

Actually, now that I think about it, the BEST defense would be to hit the E key.

rather than get near friendly air assets get near other enemy air assets and let out chaff. more than once I've gotten an enemy missle to get confused on chaff, then reaquire an enemy chopper or other jet and the guy tk's his own teams pilots

Sure... if you're a girly man. Real Marines don't need parachutes! Stick that landing boy!

                      Re: Dogfighting

Learn how to fly with the rear cam, I am an ace pilot helo or jet. I have had matches where there were two jets after the whole map and could not shoot me down simply because I can fly almost the whole time looking backwards. You must really know the map inside out. Of course while flying looking backwards your controls are the opposite. But you will adapt over time.

Its awsome because every time they shoot missiles you can avoid them. And when you lose them you can see where they went and gain the initiative.

also search google for fighter pilot techniques and study them.
Before you fly you should spend about 1 hour studying the techniques. And I recomend buying some toy jets and practice the menuvers infront of your eyes with your hands. I may sound hardcore but back in the day of dc you had to be a good pilot or your base would be raped all map long by ace pilots.

Your best bet is to learn the exact required height to do a dive DOWN not upwards, then when you pull into the dive even the best pilot will be a split second behind you in matching your movement if he decides to follow you.... resulting in a large crater on the ground and you feeling happy that he's cursing his silly mistake

Straight after this all happens, head off to the enemy airfield (again have precise timing to arrive in 15-20 seconds from the "accident" ) and strafe the hanger area with the vulcan cannon, 9 times out of ten you will kill him again and really annoy him as he will almost always spawn for the plane again but it takes twice as long as him to respawn :)

This is the best defense i have found against pilots yopu cant shake and are slowly chaining you down while you try and escape. the more you try and "twist and turn" the more openings he gets for using the cannon as you cross his crosshair. I'm not a bad pilot (by no means very good) and thats how i usualy die as well, you get very "focused" on the chase and its fairly easy to make the mistake of following them down, epecially if they make a couple good attempts to flee beforehand so i know hes not just suiciding.

P.S. whoever said to find a friendly to take a hit for you, thats so harsh, stay as far from giving the enemy easy kills as possible, any half decent pilot is always waiting for 2 enemys on screen, as the second one wont even get a lock-on tone if the target flares, giving him no chance to deploy counter-measures.

If anything, if the enemy is using missiles rather then guns, is to wait for him to fire and then cross the path of an enemy (helicopters are best) as close as you can, often it will re-aquire the lock-on with his teammates, that is of course the best defense against as he will gets kicks becuase of punish monkeys :nerr: (j/k)

                            Re: Dogfighting

I don't know how you people can tell where enemy helos are while flying at 900 mph with some 14 year old pumped up on soda tailing you. I can barely see what's going on half the time at those speeds. I can't tell you how many times I have pulled up to avoid another pilot and then gotten totally disoriented and gone off the map where I eventually get game killed for being out of bounds.

I mostly play Oman Gulf, btw.
On the 32 player map there's almost no room to manuever. It's really stupid. Even if you slow down to say 600 mph (you almost feel like it's going to stall) you don't have much space before going off the map.

I'm not crapping on anyone in particular. I'm just not that great. I have a hard time lining up on a target, then checking the mini map for red dots instead of blue ones. Everything in the jet just happens too fast for my old ass. But thanks for the suggestions. Some were worth trying.

learn to fly real close along buildings, under bridges, over water, and the faster the better cause he'll want to chase you and i doubt he will have the same reaction time, and time of cutting the corner. i guarentee you he'll 1) crash into something 2) make an huge corner losing you. if theres nothing in area to use make some corkscrews, it will most probably confuse him and he'll have restable his plane giving you little time to escape
