    Re: A Special Ops Wish

Sorry for dp, but i almost forgot the other things:

    - be able to pick up own c4.
    - be able to explode other (friendly or enemy) mines, claymores and c4s by placing c4 next to them and exploding. (it is done in real life too)
    - claymores can even be shot down or triggered by grenade. (usual method in real battlefield, if the mine is detected)
    - friendly explosives should have different warning signs. (or different color) That would help to distinguish mine/c4/claymore for friendlies.
What would be cool, but maybe too complicated/inbalancing
    - able to render c4 charges useless by throwing grenade/grenade launcher shell/tank shot/artillery/bomb next to them. (makeshift explosion devices like c4 IS quite vulnerable. any significant damage to the radio receiver would render the unit useless)
    - engineers and specops would be able to defuse enemy/friendly c4s (in real life it would mean pulling the fuse out of the c4 block: anybody is able to do that, such improvised devices do not contain countermeasures like sophiticated bombs.)
These would force specops to be more subtle than putting c4 to the middle of the road, it would require to hide them in bushes, place to non-obvious locations.
    - Mines should be able to be buried by the engeener on non-solid surfaces (ground/sand). That should be done before the mine is armed, that way it would remain unseen. (imho even enemy mines are too easy to spot.... how can ppl run over a well placed friendly mine?)

Its a good idea but from a mod/coders point of view that is incredibly hard, if not impossible to write the code to make that idea fully functioning...
Well, actually I'm a programmer and trust me, it wouldn't be hard at all. Of course not for mod makers, they have very limited possibilities.

        oh yeah for sure...
it would be easy for dice to create it as part of the next patch or expansion but for the modders it would be hard...
We have to work out what we can or can't do cos dice or ea sure don't help much.
The thing with most potential is the python code for the gametypes and hud messages etc. We still don't know what functions and returns are used in the game. We have what we've (the modding community, not myself ) worked out but as of yet theres still no official list of commands.
It would be much more fun if we could use python to its fullest and create new gamemodes easily amongst other things but until we know all the python commands and what the hardcoding of the game returns then we're pretty much struggling on our own...

Anyway back to the subject of claymores and mines being destroyed by weapons fire/explosives, I think I heard something about that for the patch...
So fingers crossed dice will include that in it...

No your wrong that would suck balls, Spec Ops class is all about C4 if he got claymores he would be useless, then the only usefull class left be anti tank. Spec ops would become just as useless as the assault/medic/support/sniper class. But I guess if the C4 went to sniper, lol no, what am I thinking, the sniper class needs to be removed from bf2 totaly, its useless .

There is another thread around here on this topic of independently setting off multiple charges, complete with mocked-up graphics.

That would be good for getting APC's and tanks, if you could blow a series of charges incase you miss. What I want to see is a alert that tells you if a teammate is close enough to get hurt by c4.

                  Re: A Special Ops Wish

I completely agree. I've wanted this since day one.

There's nothing worse than to have flag all C4'd and a couple troops or a Hummer comes rolling in -- BAM -- you blow off all of them. Then, not 2 seconds later, you hear a tank coming.

And of course your commander is off picking his arse somewhere and doesn't drop supplies

I like this idea...post it in the modding section and see if anyone comes up with a fix?

Theres already a post in the modding forums and in the bf2 editor forums...
Theres no fix for now....looks like dice have to code it - either in the next patch or expansion.
The "detonate all" command is in the actual game coding and therefore cannot be modded.

                        Re: A Special Ops Wish

Hilarous, the first few sentences of your topic is word for word exactly what i said to my bf2 clanmates. The only difference between us is our set up of the c4 charges. You said to change the freq by the mouse wheel. I figured that since we get 5 c4's that each would have its own number use the keys f1 through f5, So it would be set like this. You can press f1 to detonate the first f3 for you third placement and so on. and like usual your leftmouse trigger would be a killswitch, detonate all. I figured the only time we use keys f1 through 5 is when we're in a car or something. Just give those keys another purpose for the spec op class.

I was pretty annoyed with that, but i think it would make things more complicated.

Only problem i have with spec ops is i hate the silenced pistol and MEC and PLA Spec Ops have stupid looking berets.
