When thinking about more RAM (memory) I can not stress enough that putting any old stick of RAM in your PC is "BAD" you should / must, get matched RAM to your motherboard (MoBo)

If more than one stick of ram is to be used then go with "MATCHED PAIRS" and sell your old RAM
This link will put you on the right track.

There is a way how to get to 2G on nForce2 too. The doublechannel principe coudl be abused like this - put a 2x 512MB dimms into slots 1 and 2 (the 1st channel) AND put a 1G dimm into slot 3
That way you get the 2G on nForce2 easily. The only one problem is, if the 1G stick has got worser timings, you will be restricted to the worsest dimm timings, of course.

      IIRC Mushkin making a 1G 2-2-2 PC3200 dimms, right?
Can't get em there, in europe, but indeed they do exist

And this 2x512 + 1x1G way was proven to work. The "matching pair" is a complete BS DoubleChannel did not analyze the dimms in any way. It just need that these have identical size (on both channels, so 2x512 and 1G is okay!) and that they match their speed.
Eg. restrict the speed to the slovest dimm in pack. End of story

Re: Performance Impact from [1GB to 2GB]

Made a big difference adding 1GB to my system. Lag gone bye bye. I am on all high -dynamic light and shadows on Med, 2XAA with 1280X960 with 40 to 70+FPS average.

However I want to add that some in our group are playing with 1 gb on medium or low with no problems. And even one has only 512mb with a G-Force 5200 PCI (not express) card on her e-machine (no AGP slot, could not believe it). Of course everything on low but she is able to play well enough to pull a decent score. Go Tina!!! (she really needs a good gaming machine :hmm:)

I think the higher quality you run, the more memory is required or you are using virtual memory(ie HD) then you get that lag.
