And I have a computer with 2x7800GTX's and another with a nvidia 6800, 6800's are good (not with AA on though) but doesn't stand upto the 7800. Personally I get 80-100fps on BF2 with the settings on ultra_high.

I wouldn't bother with Dual Core. People PC did a review of 4 chips:

Athlon FX55
Athlon Dual Core (forget which model)
Pentium EE 3.8
Pentium EE 3.6 Dual Core

The FX55 still spanked the other 3. So the dual core doesn't really have that big of an impact at all. If you want more specifics I can look up exactly which month's edition of People PC it was.

Everything else looks fine. I would go with a nVidia card... nVidia is still ahead of ATI. The benchmarks may be close, but as far as the amount of features it has... pixel shaders, alpha texture filtering, etc etc nVidia is still better than ATI..

It has been proven that 10k raptors in Raid-0 give no real world performance (And we have hands on experience with such in my unit, our commander has dual-raptors and he loads out slower than our resident Corporal with his single 40gb 7200rpm WD.)

Once I find the printed article in mah' stack of magazines I will be sure to scan it and post it up (I don't think their is a link to it anywhere, might be, you could search.)

Basically, what I'm saying is ditch the idea of two 10k Raptors in exchange for maybe two 160gb 7200 Seagates.

In game you absolutely correct...but map load ups for games its huge. I should have stated where it would help having raid 0.

Ok, there is no better card outta the 6800GT and X800XL. They just do better for different games, 6800GT and all nVidia cards usually do better in Open GLgames like Doom 3. X800XL and other ATi cards usually do better in Direct3D games like Half-Life 2. Either one should get you max settings on BF2, ATi seems to do better with Anti-Aliasing, but not really much difference. I would look at other games you play besides BF2.

About the comments on the dual-core... I will agree that these are not the way for gamers to go. Having a dual-core processor will not make your games run smoother/faster. Current games are not coded to take advantage of multi-threading. If the prices/speeds of these dual-core CPUs were lower/higher, perhaps it would be a good investment, but they're just too expensive now and don't really help gaming.

Well here is the thing. The FX-55 costs $800 or more the AMD 64 4000+ costs $379 and the AMD 64 x2 3800 costs $379 and of coarse the one I'm looking at is about $500 so should I just go with the AMD 64 4000+ or go with the AMD 64 x2 3800+ since they are similiar in price? I'm not willing to pay $800 or more for a cpu just like I'm not willing to pay $500 or more for a video card.

Ok guys I have sold my current computer to a buddy and I'm going to to rebuild myself a machine. I woutld like some input on what you think of the items I'm choicing from.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor 4400+* (2.2GHz) Retail
Asus A8N-E Socket 939/nForce4 Ultra/PCI-Express/Gigabit LAN Motherboard
or

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Platinum System Memory - Retail

now the big question is video card. The price I'm looking at is $300 and under so I have come up with either the X800XL or the GeForce 6800GT what would you Recommend?
PSU will be a 430 watt Thermaltake I already have.

I have the MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum board myself and have had no problems whatsoever. Excellent Overclock ability although mine is currently running stock.

If the MSI option is not available when you buy look at an Asus board as well. Think some of the guys have already mentioned particular board part no.s.

Um, the 4000+ is 2.4 ghz, and the 3800+ is 2.0 ghz. I would go for the 4000+, it's better for gaming, the only thing dual core does better is multitasking.

WTH is up with you, you can't say you're upgrading from Intel-AMD unless you get an actual better processor, example, going from a 3.2P4-Athlon 64 3200+ ain't an upgrade, but goin from a 3.2ghz P4 to a 4000+ is. So it is like "upgrading" from a coke-pepsi dude. It's not an upgrade unless it's actually faster, but AMD is cheaper.

How about this then. FX-55 with a Geforce 6600GT? And what is the difference from all the cores to? zipzoomfly has a sledgehammer core for $756 and the clawhammer core for $795 and the San Diego Core for $811.

you really dont need a FX-55 or somthing unless ur running a crazy SLI setup-6800ultras or 7800GTX's
The San diego core is the newest core bro. Your should save money on ur cpu and get a 3700 san diego or AMD64 4000. You will want a better GPU then the 6600gt, get a 6800gt at least. For like $400 you can still get a 7800GT, which is a great card and performs close to the 7800GTX
And yes AMD will always be better then intel
