New computer and some input needed

Ok guys I have sold my current computer to a buddy and I'm going to to rebuild myself a machine. I woutld like some input on what you think of the items I'm choicing from.

    AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core processor 4400+* (2.2GHz) Retail
    Asus A8N-E Socket 939/nForce4 Ultra/PCI-Express/Gigabit LAN Motherboard
    or
    MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum Athlon64/S939/nForce4 Ultra/DDR400/PCI-Express/ATX Motherboard

OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Platinum System Memory - Retail

now the big question is video card. The price I'm looking at is $300 and under so I have come up with either the X800XL or the GeForce 6800GT what would you Recommend?
PSU will be a 430 watt Thermaltake I already have.

    Thanks for the help

Am I the only person here that has an Intel processor? Every computer discussion and every braggart signature I've seen all talk about AMD.

If you go with Nvidia I'd recommend the Asus A8N-Sli, even if you don't use SLI yet. If you're going ATI then the A8N-E will do you proud. Either card will work great and are pretty much on par. The X800XL seems to edge out ahead slightly at higher resolutions and when you bring 4x or greater AA into play. Either card will give you a great experience.

No, but most gamers will upgrade to an AMD processor. They're just a better gaming processor. Video editing though, Pentium is superior.....for now.

Upgrade to an AMD? That's like saying someone upgraded from Coke to Pepsi.

AMD Are just ... Well better for gaming due to its robust build and cool temps!!

Intel are for Video editors and Film makers etc etc.

If you want a fast robust system which is very reliable ... then go AMD!!

                    Cant go wrong with AMD

Could you please expand on what you mean by, "robust build?"

How hot a CPU runs doesn't really have any bearing when you have the proper cooling.

all you need is to WD Raptors in raid 0, heh.

It has been proven that 10k raptors in Raid-0 give no real world performance (And we have hands on experience with such in my unit, our commander has dual-raptors and he loads out slower than our resident Corporal with his single 40gb 7200rpm WD.)

Once I find the printed article in mah' stack of magazines I will be sure to scan it and post it up (I don't think their is a link to it anywhere, might be, you could search.)

Basically, what I'm saying is ditch the idea of two 10k Raptors in exchange for maybe two 160gb 7200 Seagates.

If you want serious help on building a computer post in www.overclockers.co.uk they have a store there which has good deals too. Bought all my parts there.

You've gone for a great cpu/motherboard selection but why would you want such a low grade graphics card? You can pickup a 7800GT for £279 (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/7800_Series.html)
