For Commanders: DON'T hide from arty!

As a commander, I will find a nice out of the way place, but one that is exposed to the air. Why? cause, if the enemy commander Chooses to arty me, thats one less arty against your team, and potentially less casualties.

    Agree? Disagree?

Enemy commanders will attempt an arty on you even if you are concealed for the most part. They don't always check the zoomed in satellite view and see if you're inside or under cover.

The commander is better off alive than dead

True, but I figure 15 seconds of no uav is worth saving potentially a half dozen tickets.

This one game, in I think Daquing, all the enemy commander did was arty me. Killed me about a 12-18 times. But we won the round handily.

Well, in that particular case, it probably was a good idea.

A commander that constantly arties the other commander would probably not be really effective with the arty anyway, so letting him kill you is probably not a good idea - but I can see where you're coming from.

In those 15 seconds, how many can 7, 15 or 31 of your teammates kill of the enemy while your dead, not UAVing/Artillerying/Spotting?

don't do it myself, but kinda agree, at the other hand , when you are dead, you can't put UAV, ... for 15 sec, but better this then 5 teammembers dead

I don't know, since I don't really Command that often. However, it sounds like a reasonable strategy to try. Thanks for the tip!

15 seconds can be a long time to be dead...and what if you respawn and get spawn killed? thats your team's commander out of the game for ages, and potentially could be a game loser.

No, find some cover from the Arty's no use staying out in the open.

the commander should not be in the air, or running around the battlefield like any normal soldier.

I say that completely depends on the size of the map and the number of people playing.

Anyway, on topic, I think that's a bad idea. I wouldn't say that killing the enemy commander with an artillery strike is a "waste". In the time it takes you to respawn he'll already have another strike waiting. Plus he could have dropped supplies, UAV, and done a scan all in that time that you were thinking about where you wanted to spawn. The whole time you aren't able to help out your team.

You are saying, the enemy commander got a kill and removed an important tactical advantage from the other team, and the downside is he had to use one artillery strike to do it. Sounds like a good move on the enemy commanders part.

The way I see it, the enemy commander has to,

1- Use a scan to find me
                          2-arty me

It takes longer for arty ro recharge than 15 seconds.
Besides, I usually make sure UAV is in the air at all times, so most of the time the UAV is already in teh air when I die.

I agree partially on the not being in the air part. A commander can be a medic in the back of a Seahawk and still be effective. Running around; however, a commander can still be effective. It all depends on how multi-tasking a person is. Some commanders can run around and get in the mix while still commanding effectively. Sure, there are some that just use it to their advantage for dropping supplies and using the UAV, but don't count out all roving commanders. I've seen very effective ones that utilize this style. In fact, if they can both command and participate in combat effectively, I'd say this is a plus.

I always Hide in the back of teh base where my assets are as an engineer, so I will only come out to defend the base if no one is around to do it, or to repair assets/kill spec ops.

heh, once as a commander in songuha (sp?) stalemate, As an engineer commander, I defended the base, singlehandedly, from a tank and 4 infantry. One of my luckiest moments, probably.
