    Re: BF2'S lame engine

Theres a big difference between the source engine and the bf2 engine, the source engine is more GPU dependent while the bf2 engine is more system dependent, bf2 uses more of the computer to process, while the source engine uses the gpu mostly to process.

      (semi off-topic?)
I love the BF2 hit detection on vehicles. Not many games I know of allow you to shoot into an open vehicle and injure/kill things within. Isn't that part of the engine?

I mean, other games, i shoot at someone behind an open window and it damages the vehicle and not the person I was aiming at. Also, it'd leave a bullet hole hovering where it hit (in the air). Oh well, just an observation really...

you people are insane, i cant believe some of the stuff you say. i use to think omfg!! source rules... it realy doesnt it has low poly enviroments with high res textures so what. bf2 lets you FLY, BOAT, DRIVE, SHOOT, anything your heart can desire almost and hl2 sadly lets you do nuthing but play with its decent physics engine. css with 40 people wich is the max there are no 64 man servers. lags like hell. and garrys mod whoa it lags like absolute ****. unplayable. i run bf2 with all the goodies and whatnot and it looks flipin great so all you bf2 haters stfu and go play JO.

EDIT: hell yeah thats so awesome i love this game just need to make corpral like 5000 points so i can get there earlier!!

bf2 just ****es me off because it requires 2gb of ram. I wish i could just get 2 more sticks of 512 but that would make my pc worse because of the 2T command rate.

Well to be honest I do have problems having to wait 5 mins loading the multi game and I do have problems having is stuttering but still as long as you enjoy the gameplay when its loaded thats what matters isnt it?

              Re: BF2'S lame engine

People saying source handles much better graphics with less demand on the system are coorect, yet they don't seem to realise source could not handle graphics like that on the SCALE of bf2's map and player amounts...

It's a completely different engine, made with different goals.
BF2 engine uses 16 bit heightmaps and can be a 1:4 scale at 1025x1025* (extra bit is alpha) making for huge maps.

What's the maximum amount of players on CS:S? The biggie is the one I bolded. The 2 servers I admin both average about 35-40 fps according to the console. They're also uploading an average of 6-8 Mbits/sec.

no...that has nothing t o do with it, halflife 2 actually uses server detection...halflife 1 used client side, and BF2 just is optimized differently..

I can agree on the poor coding but honestly look at the size of the maps and try to compare that to HL2...

Alot of people seem to have this load lag issue and unloading lag issue. We all seem to agree this game hits the ram pretty hard. It barely touches the video card. You want this game to load quickly buy ram. Not just cheap generic stuff either. You need to get 2GB Dual Channel 3200 at least. Then you can start complaining about something else. But lets think of this. HL2 Runs great on most systems. (probably becuase it took them so long to produce it that it was originally designed on a p3). BF2 is a brand new game released too quickly, but has had huge sucess never the less. I honestly don't know what you guys want more out of this game. Hopefully the patch will help you sleep at night. Until then lets not compare oranges and apples anymore.... :)

Bf2's textures are not even as detailed as hl2 but the game stutters/hitches like crazy when i begin a map. Dice should be ashamed of making such an unoptimized engine. Bf2 makes even high end pc's struggle like crazy. I have to wait a few long seconds for the pausing to stop at the beginning of a match. Do you think the next patch will actually optimize the game so that it does not stutter/pause/hitch? For a game that does not look so good, bf2 seems so demanding.

Damn better looking engine then what BF1942 and BF-Vietnam had. I should post some pics of what this game looks like on a 7800GTX.

The first time I played BF2 I was ****ed at how poor the graphics were. Then i realise Anti-aliasing was turned off. Now its on and Im pretty happy with them.
