    BF2'S lame engine

Im not bashing dice but why is this game such as system hog? Half life 2 has more detailed textures and enviroment but I get zero stuttering and hitching when i played through the game.

Bf2's textures are not even as detailed as hl2 but the game stutters/hitches like crazy when i begin a map. Dice should be ashamed of making such an unoptimized engine. Bf2 makes even high end pc's struggle like crazy. I have to wait a few long seconds for the pausing to stop at the beginning of a match. Do you think the next patch will actually optimize the game so that it does not stutter/pause/hitch? For a game that does not look so good, bf2 seems so demanding.

I love the game engine, on my 9800 pro i get beutiful detail.

IDK, but i believe the engine is the best thing they did in this game.

No it wasn't. It too was built from scratch but they took their time with it, Battlefield 2 was a bit rushed. Hopefully the new patch may optimize some parts of it.

      P.S Why am I post number 3?

i definitely agree. My video is getting rather dated (radeon 9700 pro) but i could still play HL2 with some gorgeous settings and no stuttering. BF2 on the other hand...well...it looks like donkey. I'll be upgrading to a 7800GTX next month, so i'm expecting some serious improvement, but its still ridiculous that the graphics look like they do (remember the pre-release screen shots? What happened to those graphics?)

            Re: BF2'S lame engine

HL2 is able to do this because (just a few reasons)...

HL2 USES CLIENT SIDE HIT DETECTION, BF2 USES SERVER SIDE
It's a completely different engine, made with different goals.
BF2 engine uses 16 bit heightmaps and can be a 1:4 scale at 1025x1025* (extra bit is alpha) making for huge maps.

What's the maximum amount of players on CS:S? The biggie is the one I bolded. The 2 servers I admin both average about 35-40 fps according to the console. They're also uploading an average of 6-8 Mbits/sec.

I get much better graphics in Single Player than Multiplayer. I think there is much, much more stress on multiplayer mode than singleplayer, regardless of the map size. Bad netcode could be the pundit.

I bet everyone who says this game has horrible graphics can't even run the game maxed... it's not poor, it's just a system hog.

Get your terms right or gtfo... jesas.

The graphics look pretty good for me... and I'm playing with most things on Medium, some on High.

battlefield - 64 players on a massive map with vehicles/planes
half life 2 - single player game that loads in sections

                              am i missing something?
