    Re: BF2'S lame engine

Both engines are good at what they do. HL2 has a very large amount of loads from one area to the next, each area is pretty small so they can keep it detailed without killing your computer. If you had a BF2 sized map with the same amount of vehicles and players in HL2, what do you get? Garry's Mod aka extreme lag. The netcode already has troubles with one vehicle in the map.

I think there's room for some optimizations in BF2. For example, the grass. It's useless. People who play on low settings only see grass 5 feet away from them, so you might as well be able to turn it off, as it's not helping anyone at all.

To those who say BF2 has crap graphics, it's a frickin' gorgeous game on high detail (which I am not capable of running.)

Its been said before, but making BF2 in the Source engine would be crap, and making HL2 in the BF2 engine would be crap. They are suited to what they do.

Now Doom 3 and HL2 you can compare, and you can compare BF2 with Joint Ops, cause in both examples they are similar kinds of games.

I agree, cant think of another game that has the massive maps and detail that bf series has, and then throw in vehicles and aircraft w/ almost unlimited ceiling, pretty crazy.

Agreed. The only other FPS I can think of that allows you to see for very far distances is FarCry , but it's engine uses special technology to achieve that feat.

half life 2 environments are puny, you move 100 ft and it has to load. On the other hand bf2 has almost the same detail while supporting massive environments and 64 players.

                          This game is absolutely beautiful..and I'm a graphics wh0re!

Considering that the game is multiplayer, and that I can play with up to 63 other players, AND use voice chat...I'm surprised they pulled it all off with such a beautiful package!

                          The PROBLEM is..it's poorly optimized.

So....if you think this game is ugly, then you aren't running it at high settings.

(but...beauty IS in the eye of the beholder )

                            Re: BF2'S lame engine

BF2 is completely different than HL2, engine wise. The Source engine blows in my opinion, and ive been developing content (both professionally and non-professionally) for the HL franchise for more than 6 years now. I thought Source would be an amazing new engine upgrade from HL1, but its been more and more of a disappointment the more i work with it. Too many glitches, too many stupid bugs, and far too many little annoyances.

On the other hand, BF2 is amazing, both its engine and the game. Im amazed how well it can run on a mediocre machine. The engine is incredibly simple aswell. LOD models, Terrain editors and tons of Cvars. Thats all theres to it, or at least everything ive seen, as ive been expirimenting with the BF2Editor for a bit now and its damn near one of the simplest game editors ive ever used.

Plus, the HL2 community is ****. Most of the community is 10 year old CS:S players who know it all.

                              Re: BF2'S lame engine

souce engine terrible? I think the source engine is whole lot versatile and efficient than bf2's. The graphics are better and alot of game devs are using the source engine to make games. Even a mmo is being made with the source engine.

i think bf2 really needs 2gb of ram. I already spend alot of money to upgrade my cpu but i guess i should have spend that money on 2gb of memory. EA should just say that bf2 requires 2gb to run on high on the box.

And ppl who have 1gb, dont bs about running bf2 on high with absolutely zero stuttering/pausing cause i know that ur lying.
