I agree with you and the links of the reports but "only to a point" and less than entirely.
I see where you and the reporters on RAM optimisers are coming from in the links above.
But...... Every tool has its use you/we can "sort of" stretch its original use for a particular purpose.
In the first link the publisher refers to "Word" in regard to the RAM Optimiser / Defragmenters (why defrag is alongside Optimiser as a tittle i don't know 2 IMHO attributed to different things).
Word is not such an every day RAM intensive program compared to BF2, therefore the results would be completely different for the use of a RAM Optimiser.
The resulting increase in performance of BF2 when using a RAM Optimiser "after" closing all background programs not needed when playing BF2, just before, opening the game ..... IMHO is phenomenal, this is what i would call the correct use of the RAM Optimiser.
Of course the RAM tool in Tuneup 2006 "should" be used in conjunction with all the other optimisations in Tuneup to gain the optimum benefit.
Yes, I know that You/I can set the optimisations in "Windows" but I'm getting way to lazy in my old age and have started to look at a one click optimisation of windows also a reset to default if i don't like it.
The second link is an in-depth version of the first link, and IMHO well put argument, "yet" again leeds me to ponder if the orators considered the RAM Optimiser prier to starting a program like BF2, neither have put up anything to do with the gaming world but moreover towards the word processing side of programs.
The Tuneup program allows you to change / adjust your settings accordingly to what you use your PC for "at any time" optimising all settings accordingly, whether it be filing gaming or whatever.
I say to peeps, give it, Tuneup 2006 a go, (it's free for 30 days) and think how to get it to "work hard" for you.
Peeps will have to have some reasonable knowledge of each use of the tools to make an informed decision of what choices to make, or ask around.
I think if you tried it Gunny m8, with your vast knowledge you might be interested at the results "you" could get from it.
