You do not need virus protection while playing BF2, since all you are doing is playing BF2.

As stated by EA:

If your system has any virus scanning or Internet security software running these to, can slow down your signal. These programs check every packet that goes in or out of the system. Make sure that all non-essential programs are turned off before starting the game.

I knew my system was due for an overhaul since performance was lacking. I went and installed Smoker XP as someone on the forums suggested - basically same thing - "only better" than gamer xp. What a loss.

At first it seemed like my performance went up some - but then all hell broke loose and I could not longer play bf2 without screaming electrostatic garbage coming out of my speakers. No driver fixes or patches, or system restore would fix it.

So I took my video card and sound card out of that system and threw it in a completely newly formatted system (since that was faster than backing up all my files, and reinstalling the OS on the other box).

I am now able to run at med-high graphics with no chop, better sound, it is a whole new game to me!!

I strongly urge you NOT to download and use these type programs. If they seem too good to be true -they usually are. For me - I was more curious than anything else about what they did. In fact, if you know what you are doing in XP - you can tweak out your system better than these programs.

Umm.. are they saying turn off your firewall or am i reading the internet security part wrong ?

i installed game xp before all of these posts. I saw no improvemnt in game but it has really screwed my system. Tried to use the restore settings and it wont work.

None on my thumbnails work and the desktop has large low res icons.

gonna have to reinstall windows.

Yes, they are. I disable everything else, but I still keep my software firewall enabled, even though I am behind a router. Its CPU/Memory footprint is negligible and I prefer to keep it on.
