Hell last night on the oilfields we had 4 tanks (maybe one was a APC) and 4 snipers just sitting in our main base (China) whoring away while we had all but one American flag.. their tickets were just bleeding away but they didnt care...why should they each of them got no less then 45 points
These guys are the worst. I think people have slightly missed the point here. We pay good money for these games because we want a FUN experience. Sure the pre-exisiting game rules enable base-raping but it ruins the experience for many players out there.

Yes it is possible to escape the base occasionally but what a pain it is to have that as the sole focus of your game! IMHO you should then with any team members make the raper your principal quarry for the rest of the game.

It's a shame that some players abuse the game design (of course there are genuine mismatches in teams which make domination inevitable but we all know players as above who base-rape whatever) but the final responsibility lies with the game designers. If they are so lax as to create game environments and rules in which players become frustrated enough to regularly disconnect due to the behaviour of others then there is a fundamental flaw in the game's design. It should not be up to us as the players to create our own separate in-game rules of engagement to compensate for poor design. Room for individual tailoring of server rules is welcome but should be through the games own tools.

There must be many potential solutions invlolving widening areas around bases where you can spawn etc. but I'm not here to do the designers work for them. I'll leave the solution-led proactive work to the rest of you.

The final proof that somthing is wrong is that this is still a topic of conversation years after the release of BF1942 and nothing has changed!

How does that work? You tell everyone to stop playing while the opposition can recap a flag or something? If not, I take it you ban them... How ***.
we expect players to switch to defense and defend the bases.. especially the one closest to the base that cant be taken... it actually works really well and we have some very long and feirce battles with nobody complaining about cheating all the time.

However I agree base-raping when there's still flags to be captured is annoying. But at least that's easily countered.
I agree, its more fun when all bases can be taken and someone is defeated fair and square.

Personally I agree with what others have said. If a team is down to their last spawn point then thats thier problem. Why should we back off. The only thing I find is lame is when you CAN capture a point and you don't and just sit and shoot all the spawning players.

Camping uncappable flags is lame. If it's cappable there is nothing wrong with it. I suppose if you are just camping spawns that is dumb, but if you are camping to take it then it's fine.

Camping the arty on strike is also fine as someone will tend to blow it up. And if you listen to the "voice" he says you should get a squad to blow up the arty and camp it.

Bombing a base is fine, but just floating with a chopper can get lame. I only float on Sharqi so they can't get that damn cobra up on me. Never camp when I am US.

I don't know if the responsibility lies with the developers or not. They gave us a game that has relatively few restrictions with a great deal of freedom of gameplay. Now this has been an ongoing trend over the last few years so I think to suddenly start introducing restrictions on the games would be a step backward. It should really be a case of people applying common sense to their gaming experience and not doing things that will upset and make the experience worse for others just because the game allows them to. Am I saying that the game should suddenly become a lesson in equiette? No, everyone goes there to play and enjoy themselves so everyone should bear that in mind. This is something that the developers can never account or design for. I think its the general public that are more to blame than any developer.

You can't really stop base rape. It's like telling the Army to stop hitting Taliban and Al Qaeda bases until they up their forces. As the team being raped, you should accept that you and your team would do the same exact thing to them

i think its fine, but i think what needs to be done is give the the team getting raped more mounted weapons so they can better fight off the rapers... it boggles my mind that there are so many more anti-air emplacements than anti-ground considering theirs about 3 air assets per team and much more ground targets... so my suggestiong just give the uncappable bases more tools :)

                      Hi there!
                      Perhaps I'm just more cynical!

However I think it's a mistake to assume that freedom of gameplay is inversely related to the number of rules/restrictions. The whole reason why Base-raping is lame is because it is too dominant a strategy. Where it is prevalent, the whole game dynamic shifts to being solely about coping with that one exploitation of the game's mechanics. Consequently freedom of gameplay actually suffers as you are forced into a corner.
A extra rule or developer solution to base-raping could actually increase freedom of gameplay in this instance.

Also I am not sure it would be a step backwards just because the current model of gameplay is entrenched. We are happy to see developments and refinements in other games - why not this one? It also would not have to be forced down our throats but could be an optional inclusion e.g. Host selected size of spawn radius around bases. If you want "classic" mode you can use 1942 style settings. If you want to avoid base-raping then you can adjust it wider if you want.

                      Cheers - that's me done!

Its the must win at all costs which is becoming more and more entrenched on this game that is having a major negative impact on the whole Battlefield 2 experience. If you need to prove that you're more of a soldier than someone else by playing a game then you need help.
Explain to me what part of what I said is unsportsmanlike. I said that I don't rape unless it is the last base left. If the last base is unacappable, the only way to win is to bleed the enemy's tickets. I ask you, Einstein, how do you bleed the enemy's tickets faster if you've got no more bases to cap??? You kill them. I haven't advocated cheating at all. So everything that I've said is completely sportsmanlike. When is the last time that you saw a real sporting event where the team in the lead intentionally GAVE the other team a chance to get back into the game? That's not sportsmanship, that's pity. And to get pity, you must first be pitiful. You are actually insulting your enemy by LETTING him get out of his base. You are telling him that he is not good enough to do it on his own, that he is beneath you. I don't want my enemy to do that to me and I will give him the same respect in return. Just because the round ends and your enemy has lost doesn't mean that he won't have another chance to succeed in a few seconds. Kill him quickly and give him the chance to get even next round! Now tape up your injured uterus and get back on the battlefield, soldier!

PS - The problem isn't baseraping, it's having uncappable bases...If the base can be capped, the round ends eliminating the baseraping.

Yeah give them a bunker that they can hide in, and then nuke the other team...

Ive never been fussed about being base camped, all flags taken or not. For me its a challenge to solve. Im not going to moan and whine like a little baby. Im either going to fight it out or im going to escape, eventually - and when i do you better have those back flags guarded(which they are usually not). Now you might say it will take ages for a flag to turn for 1 person and the opposition will get there fast. But thats what squads are for - if someone gets to a flag and isnt a squad leader then the other members leave and rejoin so that he becomes squad leader enabling them to spawn on him.
To be honest i think base camping isnt as threatening as it was in bf1942. The squad system, the wider spawn areas and the commander option restrict it a lot.
