If You Don't Know How To Pilot A Blackhawk, Then For The Love Of God Don't Pilot It!

I was playing on a server not too long ago on a server with a group of players who weren’t exactly the pick of the litter as far as “Battlefield 2” is concerned. I’m not tooting my own horn here when I say that, not at all. I’m no hot shot myself, but I’ve been playing long enough to know the basic rules of how to play the game, one of which being if you don’t know how to pilot an airborne vehicle then don’t pilot it!

Well, it was the start of a new game at the Dalian Plant as the USMC and I decide to spawn at the top of aircraft carrier. I head straight for the Blackhawk, but since I don’t know how to pilot it, I stand next to it and wait for someone to come and take the position so I can gun. Well, eventually someone does come and takes the pilot position and I hop into the gunner’s position. After that, the pilot waits a moment longer for the Blackhawk to fill with his teammates up so I’m thinking, “Hey, this guy can’t be a complete twit! At lease he’s smart enough to wait for his own teammates to fill up the chopper before he takes off.”

    How wrong I was.

After the chopper is filled, he lifts off from the ground and starts to make his way to land. It’s not long before I come to realize that he has no real piloting skills whatsoever. He dips up and down like an amateur and sways back in forth in a way that’s making me, and surely the other passengers, really nervous. Halfway to land, the chopper is losing stability. I’m thinking, “What the crap?” and look at the hub to see that the pilot position is vacant.

The pilot of my team's fully-occupied Blackhawk actually bailed out of the vehicle, over the ocean, and didn’t even bother to warn his own teammates that he did it!

I panic and, like anyone who knows remotely anything about playing “Battlefield 2”, bail out of the chopper and parachute to the water. Unfortunately, everyone else in the chopper didn’t catch on and they perished in the crash. What is left from this is Mr. I-Pilot-A-Transport-Vehicle-That-I-Don’t-Know-How-To-Use-And-As-A-
Consequence-Get-My-Own-Teammates-Killed-In-The-Process and I being stranded out in the middle of the sea, between the carrier and land. I’m stuck out here, unable to swim to land, and unable to use my own weapon to kill myself. What I do next is call my transport. I call and call and no one comes. I even send a typed message asking someone to pick me up, but still no one comes for me. After a moment, another Blackhawk from my team is hovering near me. I send another request for a pick-up, but still, they ignore me and just keep on cruising by. After a while, I get fed up and just left the server.

I’m sure people complain about this all the time so forgive me if it seems like I'm preaching to the choir here, but I think that there’s a moral to this story and that’s if you don’t know how to pilot a Blackhawk, or any vehicle at that matter, than please don’t do it. Your teammates will appreciate it and you’ll find yourself having a more pleasurable “Battlefield 2” experience due to it.

Ahhhhh.... it happens to everyone eventually doesn't it?

Hopefully you feel a bit better after your rant - it works wonders for me!

Remember you have got a suicide button, accessible by pushing "Enter" to bring up the spawn/weapon select page. You'll find it at the bottom right of the screen.

Or, in a situation like this, face the shore, hold W, and then push J, K or L to bring up the all/team/squad chat prompt. You will continue to swim forward. Walk away and make some coffee or food...

lmao i know how you feel man, those guys i let take the pilot position then when there not looking put C4 on the tail. the other team mates will see me do this and not get in. the pilot gets bored takes off and BOOM! lol he gets pissed but i save about 5 budy's from a crapy death. about your swimming problem, i got a story for that to lol.
one time just for kicks i wanted to see how long it would take for me to swim from the Carrier to shore... so i did. takes about 10 minutes, maybe more depending on if you use your stamina bar, or like Syndrome said just hit "k" and walk away for a bit.

Well, I've been in some Blackhawk crashes before, but I've never really complained about them until now. It's one thing to crash the Blackhawk into a mountain or something, but to straight-up bail it when it's fully loaded with your own teammates over the ocean is just plain reckless.

        Thanks for listening though. :)

Thats like saying "If you're a noob, don't play" People gotta learn somehow, and EA didn't exactly pack the singleplayer mode with aircraft. Get over it. There's a dumbass on EVERY server.

Cleansweep is a good way to practice piloting skills.

Is it possible that he got disconnected or kicked? I don't really think that he would bail out in the middle of the water to go swim himself...

He might well of crashed or disconnected (perhaps he was lagging thats why he was flying wild) its happened to me before while flying. He may have just bailed as you say, the inept do come in all flavours

But just to add, anyone that remotly knows anything about the game, wouldnt bail out in that circumstance, they would press F1 and take the pilots seat, the helicopters almost never come straight down when the pilot leaves the vehicle, in fact you have loads of time to realise whats happening usually.

I have had pliots shot out from time to time, usually by a AT Round hitting the front, and 9 times out of ten you can swop seats and recover it.

I could have done that, but I don't know how to pilot the Blackhawk either. I'd just get everyone killed.

Perhaps someone should develop a mod for "Battlefield 2" that works like an interactive tutorial for how to pilot the airborne vehicles. I’d download that in a heartbeat.

i can pilot the blackhawk! ..wait, no i cant. thats why i leave the flying choppers to the other guys. but even then last night i said to some guy ''i'm not to good in this, can u fly it well?'' he replied ''yep, hop in''... and deliberately bails out over a building.... i hate the dumbasses who ruin the game for every1 else. but still theres always 1, at least.

I think that tutorial mod is an excellent idea.... You could even add some objective based training scenarios... (ie: Land your helicopter on the top of this building).. Or provide a bot gunner to train attack chopper pilots on how to position themselves to allow their gunner to get to work....

You could also add a scenario for the OTHER side.... Place someone in a tank, and point out to them how to take down BH whores...

i love flying choppers! i actualy hate getting into a helicopter with some one else flying, most of the time i end up getting a noob pilot who bails over a flag to capture it.

Re: If You Don't Know How To Pilot A Blackhawk, Then For The Love Of God Don't Pilot It!

I'm a trusted pilot at my local LAN. Its an honor when I come in for a lockdown and everyone is like "Dammit where the hell is Dave." and ppl actually like cheer when I come. I love blackhawks and I fly fully loaded ones all the time right into enemy bases. I also sometimes freak people out in a cool way by actually skimming the water in a heli. I've had a guy at the LAN who was my co-pilot..well heres the story. We're doin the plants rite? So I load up a full BlackHawk as I'm commander and have a nice safe flight to the mainland where I land and let a few guys out to cap and give them a rendezvouz point at the top of the hill saying I'll be back after I drop the Spec Ops guys off rite? So I'm flyin low and I spot a sniper proned on the top of this building and I cant resist the temptation so I tell my copilot (not my usual one, my friend that I have trained but some newb) and I tell him to hover at a certain altitude and break formation if hes taking fire. He kinda nods warily and I bail. I land on top of the sniper and knife him and look back up to signal the co-pilot to pick me up and see the blackhawk hurling down at me. I get squished of course and the first thing that went threw my mind was: "Well he probably didn't know how to switch positions." So I walk over to him like "WTF?" and he says "F*ck you, your the worst commander ever." I gave him one HELL of a deadarm and next round stranded him in the middle of the ocean, telling him "Get out here, I'll send some Spec Ops wit a boat to take you on a special mission.

HEE HEE. Special mission my ass.

This happens all the time. I don't like it either but what can you do?
And for the suicide thing; you don't need a weapon for this. Just get up the spawn-menu (enter) and press suicide. You will get some negative score for this but I guess it's better than swimming the entire round.
