No. You. Don't. You don't get 2 points. You don't get 1 point. You get 0 points. Nothing at all for kills. You can sit there doing absolutely nothing and will accumulate points just fine.

Read this page in the EA games forum. [Link] That page actually has an interpretation of the actual code used to score commander points. The best explanation is every time anyone in your team gets a point, your commander gets that point divided by the number of people alive on your team at that moment in time. So this roughly means the average, although it won't be exact from the end-game scores due to players leaving/joining and just being dead when the point was scored. Simple version is, it's the average.

Regarding the discussion: commanders can occasionally fight. If no squads are following orders, you can easily keep up with the constant scan spotting/UAV/artillery/supplies duties while helping to defend a flag against an attack. If squads are actually following orders, which is rare, then there's probably no time for that. And offence is usually never a good idea for commanders.

I think the only time a commander should be up with the grunts is on low player server. Like 16-20 players. Any higher and I think they should stay at the main base and mind the house and the squads.

But, man, this one time, I asked for someone to reapir the artillery. (I was a spec ops) What I got was "learn to be commander you idiot" from countless people. I usually play engineer when I'm commander, but I noticed we didn't have one during the game, and became one, still a spec ops. I didn't feel like suiciding.

I don't need you to tell me how to be commander, because I am the commander, and you will obey me.

          :)
They were likely referring to the fact that you can drop supplies on stuff to revive it. Which clearly a lot of commanders dont know.

Biggest peev is on a 64 man server with a commander flying a plane or chopper.

16 slot server, the man's gotta fight though. More than 16 & position in the back with a kit you can defend with (SF means no UAV and C4 suprise around the flag pole.)

I can't see 32 man or more with a commander who isn't 90% plus in the command screen. Constant radar scans, use radar for arty not UAV; they'll know you're lighting them up and move. You can even zoom the satelite feed close enough to see people and individually spot people w/o a UAV like the deep enemy commander for your SF guys.

I think the point of this thread is that most of us hate anyone who takes a senior position and doesn't take it seriously.

We're losing on Kubra this morning and have lost all our spawns and we have 3 players in 2 jeeps f-n around as MEC in the US air base. Might make this game more like real war because I'm sure there are plenty of soldiers in units that don't 'add' to the outcome and commanders that hurt more than help.

Anytime I see our commander take off in a jet, I type in TEAM; "why is our commander flying a plane?" then immediately mutiny vote and then follow with "kick this guy, he'd rather fly a plane" in TEAM. This will get successful mutiny vote or get the commander to stop and command.

Commanders should be back safe doing thier job.

It is really frustrating to see a commander in the front line or flying. Also its not great to be to stuck in one place i think. Ive come across commanders who sit at the main base but even if that flag has turned neutral and the nme have been eliminated, they cant even move the 100 yards to cap the flag back.

on another commander note, why is it when the nme has no flags and were trying to kill the remaining nme. The commander cannot spot them after his scan, the number of commanders who dont do this is bizarre.

99% of the time im commander I help my teams cause at the front lines and usually move with them. I also drop supplies, uav when requested and spot enemies when asked to do so. And I also use arty, but yes I love helping my team win by fighting.

On the subject of annoying dumbasses.. I absolutely HATE HATE HATE when honourless idiots refuse to get out your attack helo when you have your own clanmate who you have been gaming with for 3 years, and are on ventrilo with right now. Where in their hollow braindead skull do they think that they are going to benefit their team by stealing a copilot seat when I have a buddy sitting next to me who can help the team? (Yes I know that saying "That helo is mine!!" is lame, but when all you want is to fly with your copilot, it's different.

Anyway, when this happens (and it's often) I'll spam bail out 5 times and if they don't get out within 30 seconds, then it's the old fly into the water to get it into their thick heads technique.

Maybe that belonged in another topic, but whatever.

i dont give a crap who's in the helo, first ones that get it gets its so deal with it.

You just arn't understanding because you probably do it yourself or you have never been in the situation and it is extremely frustrating cause you KNOW that the noob who got in is going to have terrible aim and probably not even know how to use the TV missiles.

It makes me mad that given any degree of anonymity, people who would other wise be friendly and agreeable choose to be selfish and immature.

I actually have found that it helps to command and fight, but you need to do it a certain way. The commander should command, drop supplies, keep a UAV always running, and I think they should scan and show some of the other team members positions at another base (mostly if two are being captured). What I usually do is get in a APC or tank, make sure the team has supplies and a UAV in an important place, and go cap a flag or defend one. If it is a small map, I will go to the front lines and help my team with some armor or at least gun from a humer/fav. The most important thing is the commander needs to put the team first, then help. Sometimes you need to help, especially if there are no flags left and you've hidden in a remote location all through the map. I have a screenshot of a round where I was commander and also capped flags and defended bases with a T-90(I think.) I also got my commander rbadge, staff officer ribbon, and a transport badge. http://img189.imageshack.us/img189/7...reen0112qh.png Sorry for long-ish post

Re: how many of you get mad when...?

a lot of the time, especially on the 16 player maps, to lose a soldier (you are one man down against the enemy, 1 man matters when you've only got 8...) because he is back at base commanding, is quite a stupid thing. he should be up there with his team, that way he can immediately see where enemy movements are. Sometimes the map doesnt tell you everything you need to know.

I like to go in the gunner seat of a plane or chopper (chopper is invariably safest) as my mate flies. He keeps us out of trouble, i can command safely, while still helping my team by killing the enemy and taking flags.

But on a big map, where your team are more than competent to fight without you, you should stay back and stay safe. Plus there is an increased enemy presence in the area, so you are more likely to get killed, plus you have to stay on top of even more information, something you cannot do while fighting for your life. If you want to mix the two, take a nice, quiet area to sit in (make sure you have something above your head to cover for enemy artillery strikes.) this way you are still forward and could make the difference if a squad near you are taking fire, and you can take their attacker out easily. If you were way back at home base they would be dead.

But the most important thing as a commander is to STAY ON TOP OF INTEL. If you are too busy fighting to pay attention to people on the other side of the map spotting troops for artillery strikes, either resign as commander or stay out. If you feel you are doing your job well, while still making the enemy pay, i honestly don't mind if you are.
