this is what you are suppose to do not this........ you should replace BF2OpenAll.dll with ct_oal.dll from the System32 directory.
But that is exactly what Hugh advised me to do...is it not?

Btw...the EA UK forums are down...yet again

EDIT: nm..I understand what you mean know..you were quoting him. The EA UK forum thread you're probably referring to is the one about using the OpenAL32.dll

Hey..waddaya know..this one works. No snapping or popping or other audio artifacts..it's a KEEPER!

        OpenAL32.dll version 6.14.357.7

Installed with the new version 5.12.02.1161 X-Fi/Audigy 1/2 drivers by running oalinst.exe in the \Drivers\wdm\common\i386 subdirectory of the driver archive.

I just unrared the fx driver and manually installed thru device manager. Did not change openAl driver and it's working great. the sounds are all there and some I never heard.

Dangit! You guys are making me want to put my Audigy2 ZS back in my system and try these drivers!!! I took it out and replaced it with a Turtle Beach card to try to solve my BSOD issues and it turned out to be something else. I got lazy and never put it back in. Gonna have to try it now.

Ok...I'll try and settle down now

I have come to the conclusion (with some help from the folks at Creative Labs) that the EAX effect levels in BF2 were implemented too low. Probably has something to do with the fact that EAX 4/Advanced HD isn't working in the initial release which is probably what it was balanced for.

Owners of X-Fi cards have a neat little slider to increase the EAX effect levels in games.

I like these latest drivers version 5.12.06.1161 so I think I'll stick with them until teh v1.03 BF2 patch..whenever THAT may be

                  (oh heck, Shamus..you know I'm lying )

Re: Anybody tried the new X-Fi drivers with an Audigy?

We are also discussing it abit here:

I just tried the other drivers at station-drivers, and the perf was the same, but soundquality very "tinny". At station-drivers they have also gotten confused and put wrong links to the filenames. Just hold your mouse over and youll see the correct file.

I also couldnt load BF2 without the default bf2openal.dll.
I can choose x-fi, but when clicking apply the game crashes to desktop.

The DriverVer=08/08/2005, 5.12.02.1143 is Version: 2.07.0003.2, same as the x-fi driver.
The other one (64bit) is DriverVer=06/18/2005, 5.12.06.1161 Version: 2.08.0001.3 ^--- I found had tinny sound.

Re: Anybody tried the new X-Fi drivers with an Audigy?

thx. i have an audigy 2 value which creative labs has abandoned and this helped me to update my drivers, including openal and eax 4 support to the latest release. really works great with bf2! i'm getting a steady 45-60 fps... i only wish those bastards would support their customers and not make buyers go through all the rings just to get a driver update.

Why boycott the expansion pack???? Talus why you going to stick with the version 5.12.06.1161 when the 5.12.02.1143 version is the newest by date?

Because it will most likely be the next official Creative driver release. (har har)

Also because for the first time, copying over the OpenAL32.dll file and renaming it to BF2OpenAL.dll resulted positively. With every other driver version, doing so led to all sorts of cracking and popping. So to me, that makes it seem like it is the most compatible driver release with my system.

if the game wouldnt be so addictive, I would have already stopped playing

by the way, modern Combat is not done by DiCe!
