    Skill based sights

If you ever played Americas Army, you've noticed that their type of sights (iron/scope) differs from BF2. The guns sway when you breathe! IMO this is way better than the expanding-type sights in BF2.
Why? The sights today are mostly (entirely?) based on random (i.e. LUCK). In AA you can actually time your shots extremly well, lie prone and watch the sniper scope slowly sway up and down as you breathe, then when the cross-hairs are in their lowest position there's a few milliseconds when its almost completly stable, shoot then and you HIT what YOU AIM FOR.
In BF2, you lie prone for an hour and when you finally shoot, the bullet doesnt hit where you aim, but rather where the random-generator calculates your hit

My point is, that with AA-style sights, the swaying can be affected by breathing, physical condition, skill (maybe badge based, not point based)
and the result would be a much more realistic aiming system. Let the sights sway freely and it's up to the player where the bullet actually hits.

    Oppinions, please!

put sway on aiming, ie. right clicked iron sights, scopes, etc. but keep the good ol' expanding crosshair for normal fire. its the only representation of the gun jumping around that the game has.

if you added sway though you would have to put in at least bullet drop.

Yep, thats 1 of the things AA is superior over BF2. Like comon, BF2 is a bit too arcadish imo

That would be good better thatn what is there at the moment. However i rarely miss with the sniper rifle if it is an easy shot ie. target still not to far away. It would be much better, then if you were sniped you would now that it wasn't some noobs first time with a rifle.

            Re: Skill based sights

AA has one neg. sideeffect tho, when you use the Barret .50 (~M95) at its maximum zoom, the recoil makes the scope jump so you actually dont see where the bullet hits :hmm:

              Re: Skill based sights

i understand that but this game is about balance and a noob is supposed to be able to come into the game and play as well as a veteran if they have the skill and giving the rifles more sway simply because someone doesn't have a stats page isn't very balanced now is it

and what if you decided to make a new account would you want to deal with excessive rifle sway I know what you're saying and i agree but i also know that the game ought to be fair for the noobs too

                Re: Skill based sights

a newbie should be have the same chance as a veteran. thats why the idea of a game imposed adjustment based on your rank is bad. bad-bad even.

                  Re: Skill based sights

Game fact: A beginner has the same possibillity (from the games point of view) to hit a target 500m away that a vet with the Expert Rifle Badge (or similar).
This way, a beginner ("noob") who actually pulls it off, immediatly get a reply like "you lucky noob". If the sighting system was changed to AA style (or similar), the shooter would be given "wow, you're some marksman, dude!".

I'm not saying the beginner-and vet settings should be extremly diff. but there should be a difference. Not point based (MED points dont make you a better marksman), but perhaps badge/ribbon based or something.

Maybe the first-time-users should answer this thread. I think they're disappointed to find out they dont hit where they aim.

                    Re: Skill based sights

I do agree that perhaps a more realistic sight system is needed, and I like the idea of having actual skill-based badges.

But, is this not why we have different games? Why does BF2 have to implement the AA system. Isn't that what AA is for? It is a different game, appealing to a different kind of player.

Sure BF2 is arcade-like compared to games like AA. Let BF2 be BF2, it is what it is, something different to AA.

                      Re: Skill based sights

This is what mods are for I guess and if it was to be changed in v2.0 or something, the BF2-community would probably be furious.

To my knowledge, the sights have been the way they are since BF1942 and are not likely to be changed in any future BF release.

Lol AA fails in so many other ways that i woudnt advise BF2 to take after it.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I love mods that change the game, bringing something new to it is great. And I think you're right though, if it were changed in the actual game there would be uproar. Such drastic changes are not really possible except in mods. If it were going to have such a sight system it would have had to be on release.

Well whats the point in having a sniper if you can't hit things at long distance, the snipers really suck i aimmed at someone in exactly the same point and shoot 5 bullets, one of them hit, now in reality none of them would have hit or all of them would have hit, scopes don't suddenly slightly change. Bullets should hit where there aimming, just have the cross hair moving as you breathe and increased recoil instead of some stupid unrealistic cone of fire that means you can't hit anything at a range where you should easily be able to.
