We have three identical systems for lan party, all with 2 gig or ram and the verifying client problem was happening on two of them. A wipe and reinstall of BF2 fixed the problem on them but it starting happening again on one of them.

Before you make a comment like the one you made think first. There are many different systems out there and an error in the game can cause problems with one machine and not even be apparent on another.
It is impossible to say as you have that you have 3 identical systems.

Your "build" may be "identical" but parts on the hardware may not be, also this goes for drivers and software, "do not" get "fooled" into believing that one so called twined identical sys / rig / pc, will run the same as it's twin, (in theory it should "but" in fact and experience it is as individual as a human twin with it's own identity and way of thinking)

Treat "respect" any "one" PC build as an individual and you and your PC will have a sound foundation to build on!

The origanal post by iflabs.................. My main answer to your comment is >> "Rubbish"

      FYI ...
EA and Dice have nothing to do with "Verifying Client Data Issue" Being slow its your Rig / PC hardware and the way you have it set up.
      1) the main reason is "speed" of Hard drive loading the map about to be used
      2) the time taken to go through your cache files and sorting out what is in currant use
      3) cpu speed processing the program data
      4) Ram amount + speed. Enabling the game program to transfer the data to RAM and then to the CPU for processing
      5) the speed of your Up link via the net.

The systems are identical as one could expect and better way of showing that a problem exists rather than using three computers with mixed hardware. All three of these computers were built at the same time and all the components ordered in threes, same brands and models. The same slipstream install on each system with only the usernames being different. These are setup with xp, drivers and battlefield with no other software installs.

There is a also a fourth system with 1 gig of ram, different hardware and tons of software (tons is being used as an exaggeration so don't take that literally). This machine will also revert back to long verification and like the other machines the problem goes away with a removal and reinstall of BF2.

If the problem is not BF2 then the verification problem should still exist after the removal and reinstall of BF2.

I have had problems with long verification time (loading is fine)...AND the long verification times started spontaneously. When i first installed the game the verification times were fine.

** and WHY does the game have to verify you in between rounds????? Like you can install a mod during a game????
It verifys between rounds because it only verifys the map your playing at the time. I had a map get corrupted once, and it would fail everytimg on just that map. I am sure there is some server induced wait, sometimes on 64 player servers it takes a few seconds longer, sometimes I get in real fast.

Don't you think you have answered your own question then m8 (me being cryptic) the answer must be in a file on BF2 and If I were you i'd look into the "cache" files and "client / server data" files saved in your "My documents" > battlefield 2 file.
There's a how to in the stickys.
