top and rear of the APCs can take damage from the 'heavier' LMGs (PKM and the MEC dealy-bobber). Not MUCH damage, mind, but enough to make someone go from smoking to burning if he doens't catch on.

The PKM won't let you drop a chopper, but it can discourage attack chopper pilots if you get a good (meaning, decently well hidden) firing position from which to lay into them.

PKM isn't that great 90% of the time. It's only useful on close quarters urban maps where:

      - You can use a corner to catch running troops off-guard
      - You cannot be easily flanked (backed up against a building with cover on at least one side)
      - Troops are running mostly parallel to your line of fire

      Here are the PKM spoilers:
      - Anyone running perpendicular to your line of fire; the PKM's bullets travel half as fast as the bullets in other guns, so you have to lead twice as far
      - Anyone who shoots at you first; call it irony, but you're a lot easier to kill while prone (at your most accurate) because your HEAD is the first thing the bullets hit
      - Any map not Strike at Karkand
      - Armor, artillery, grenade launchers, or any carbine or assault rifle on single shot at 15m or more
      - Grenades; again with the irony, you're slower to get up/move when prone... so the grenade that plops at your side is a LOT harder to avoid
      - Anyone who is smart enough to remember where you are; and having played a lot, I can tell you that there aren't that many locations on the urban maps where a support guy can operate successfully for more than 30 seconds. So you have to move after you kill a cluster of guys - but to where? Snipers can pick any spot with a firing line with less dependency on range - support players have to wedge themselves much closer and have fewer options
      - Yourself; since your feet, body and gun barrel (which is REALLY long) stick through walls, pretty much everyone can see you

Have fun! I love playing a class that is irrelevant on most maps.

I've never taken down a taken with the PKM before, even if it is smoking. I wonder how many rounds do you need to do it. I read somewhere you need like 600 rounds for a attack chopper.

Yes. The PKM isn't a chopper killer but it's enough to put them on their toes in most cases. Sometimes it scares them away and thats all u need.

The PKM is my favourite weapon too but u won't get points just for running around with it. It is a squad-killer if u use it right.

It's impossible to give in-depth instructions here so you'll just have to experiment. Anyways everyone has their own style of play. I can give u a few hints though.

At longer ranges, don't bother opening fire if your opponent can see you. Only shoot at ppl that don't know where yopu are. Also, at longer ranges, don't underestimate the time it takes to recover from recoil. Nowadays i usually shoot 1 shot at a time in about 1 sec intervals, if the opponent looks smaller than the bead of the ironsight.

Recenty i've noticed that using the ironsight doesn't do that much good with this weapon. I use the sights only with those extremely long shots, that shouldn't be made with this weapon to start with.

its 400 for an attack chopper, 600 for transport. i read that too, i wrote it.
you cant damage tanks w/ the pkm. jeeps, vodniks and hummers are easy prey though.

Thank you for so eloquently pinpointing the reason why this gun is so useless. Combine that with the booming sound, and only the most unaware players will die to the PKM.

well today i saw a PKM take down a full 5 person blackhawk that was brand new.. That made me change my mind . but its like you ALLWAYS have to go prone which some times sucks(this is coming from a man that played Assualt for 56 Hours) even with the M249 and the RPK you dont have to do this. My Support Score is dropping too. ill get used to it i guess

Something else was hitting the blackhawk - PKMs cannot do enough damage before overheating.

No PKM's cannot against a 100% health BH. You had help somewhere along the way and did not know it. You most likely missed it getting hit earlier before it got to you shooting at it.

I like playing support 99% of the time because they are an important part of warfare. I usually only get 30 to 40 points a round, but I am not too worried about rank. I just love the hell outta this game. When I unlocked the PKM I couldn't hit **** except for very close. Now I have learned to control the ROF to short burst. IT F'in rocks. But ALWAYS go prone! If I have to shoot longer distances I use Iron Sight & I can pick off guys on roofs quite a distance away. AS for downing a heli .... well, my rule of thumb is, If it's an attack heli... DO NOT shoot at it. Let the other heli's, jets or AA guys take care of it. Cause if you fire on them & they spot you ...Good night Irene! Now if it it smoking, then HELL Yeah ... Go for it! As for the Transports, yeah I shoot at them hoping to take out the gunners & passengers. If You like to play suppport, then I say go for it. Nothing like having a fully auto machine gun & unlimited Ammo ( not to mention unlimited grenades too). Rock On!

Oh yeah.. BTW! That one guy was right when he said that the heli's that get fired on by a PKM DO tend to vacate the area!

That's your opinion though, and people play differently. People play better than others also. I get about the same k/ds with the PKM than I did with the assault class, plus all the teampoints.

                                Yuh huh.

I noted that it's a useless gun on any map not-Karkand (it's in my post). I'm not surprised that you're mostly happy with it, seeing as you've played Karkand more than twice as long as any other map.
