well becos its high accuracy from the scope and if it had more power then it wud a M95 kinda but auto fire and a crosshair and that wud b unfair if it had a bit more power then it wud b betr
L85 - Why so weak?

The L85 was my first unlock and I can't even remember the last time I used it. The China and MEC AK versions are way better close range at full auto and the M16 burst was pretty effective once I got used to it. What I do now when I kill a medic is just pick up his kit, drop a couple of medic bags and go back to my assault rifle or DAO12 shotgun. My next unlock will be the G36. I wish I took it as my first unlock instead of the L85 crap. The G36 is a clear improvement on the standard weapon. It is no match for the noob launcher ofcourse.

well i think we can all agree that the m16 and the AK47 are both fine peices of weaponry for their time but the AK47 came out in 1947 and the M16 came out sometime in the 50s so they're both outdated compared to the newer rifles available now
but having shot an M16 and an SKS rifle i would imagine that the AK47 is similar to the SKS if you rapid fire. Anyway my point is that the M16 is a very easy weapon to fire and has a slight recoil when compared to a SKS the 7.62mm is a very nice round to kill something with which makes the SKS a nice cheap hunting rifle but i wouldn't want to fire it in full auto unless i wanted to shoot planes and birds
the bottom line is that the weapon physics in this game are off to try to make a level playing field and i hope when i finally get to unlock my L85 i enjoy it for what it isComment

Originally posted by Colonel SandersI have actualy heard that alot of our troops are infact trying to get aks as well, the ammo is literaly everywhere, you can get it from stockpiles that are captured by the us. And i dont think they shoot at sounds anymore like they did in vietnam, you have to remember that vietnam is a thick forest area where visability is blocked by leaves etc., Now Iraq on the other hand is a dessert and visabilty is very high.
I still don't believe it :) I am sure ammo is in lots of stock piles due to the high usage of the gun in Iraq but it might not always be readily available in army bases. It would be highly secured as well to stop it getting into the wrong hands and I really don't believe they just give it out to any US solider who turns up with an AK.
I also thought a lot of the combat is actually urban but even if it were desert do you want to carry an enemies weapon that has such a distinct profile and noise? The chances for mistake would have to be greatly increased.
Also do we really believe that the miltary command structure is going to let soliders put aside their issued weapons to use captured emeny weapons? Its not like the captured weapons are going to be exactly good AK's anyway. Very likely to be cheap nasty knock off's rather than Russian or Chinese.
I am sure this is an urban myth.Comment

Yeah, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, and Austria. They all make very good AR of the time (G36 family, FN FNC and F2000, SIG 550 family, and Steyr AUG respectively), and , although russia made the record breaking AK47, that's 58 years old, the design hasn't been altered too much. A lot of euro countries are doing well, but Britain isn't, the military complains about Enfields bad job on the L85, too many problams, magazines falling out, parts falling off, stuff like that.Originally posted by ABD_BangbusIm gonna beg to differ with you on that one. Even from a bench rest I had a hard time getting a respectable grouping with the 2 AK's Ive fired before (@ 200 yards). Now I can put rounds on paper, sure....but thats not accuracy. The AK is designed to be reliable and to put alot of lead down range, but when compared to the AR15 theres no contest when it comes to the accuracy. In response to so many countries using the ak, you have to take into account how cheap it is to make these rifles. Then again, if you want a quality firearm, buy an H&K..... the G36 is a work of art, too bad the only one I've ever fired was civi version in an ugly ass shade of light gray.
EDIT: And the most probable replacement for the M16 family, the XM8, is based on the German G36 family of weapons, and the special forces replacement for the M4, is the Belgian FN SCAR, so those two countries are also in a way designing AR for the future of US forces.Comment

Iraq is not all desert, how good do you think the visibility is in an urban environment? What about all the areas that actually have vegetation?Originally posted by Colonel SandersAnd i dont think they shoot at sounds anymore like they did in vietnam, you have to remember that vietnam is a thick forest area where visability is blocked by leaves etc., Now Iraq on the other hand is a dessert and visabilty is very high.Comment

A bigger round travels slower and so actually isnt as effective against people. The AK round may be effective to 400+ yards, but the AK itself has terrible accuracy because of its short barrel and large round. Also note I said professional armies. Conscripts need something simple and easy to use - like the G36, or the Ak47. Russia has a largely conscript army with a more professional section within it. Israel has a professional army but is also surrounded by half a dozen much larger states that want to destroy it, so they need to be able to conscript large numbers of people. India, Bulgaria, Egypt, China, Poland, North Korea, Romania etc dont have professional armies.Originally posted by Colonel SandersThe ak round is actualy a very powerful round and is accurate to 400 yards+, it is much bigger than the m16 round.
And btw, many many nations use the AK and guns similar to the AK. For instance
Russia, Israel, Bulgaria, china, egypt, india, north korea, Poland, Romania
just to name a few of the hundreds that use itComment

Re: L85 - Why so weak?
I agree with most of what You've written so far, however, Poland is transitioning to a volunteer force, India does not use the draft, all the members of its more than one million strong army are volunteers, not to mention the rest of its military forces.Originally posted by Praetorian145India, Bulgaria, Egypt, China, Poland, North Korea, Romania etc dont have professional armies.Comment

Re: L85 - Why so weak?
The recoil or deviation seems to ruin the L85A1. You have to wait too damn long inbetween shots for any accuracy. I can snipe better with an M4 on semi. Lately I went back to the 101 and M-16A2, and they seem better. For you guys knocking the M-16, give it another try. I do better with it close up and long range. It does 2 points less damage, but the cyclic rate is 50% faster. Those three shots dump pretty fast. Get used to the timing and it's pretty darned good.Comment

Re: L85 - Why so weak?
L85 is not bad up close but at range even thought more accurate on single shot its still not going to complete with m16 and ak101 i'm saying it because it is whats happening to me
i like to shoot people at distant because noobs tend to spray and pray, some times good players will prone and actually shoot back with some accuracy
everytime i use L85 at range the hit indicator keeps on flashing after every shot i fire but its just not fast enough
the m16's single shot mode feels slightly less effective but its burst mode makes it a better gun for me
the AK is simply the best of them all
eventhough the crosshair scares you some times when you shot its dead on center
its so good that i often beat snipers at range on singleshotComment

Re: L85 - Why so weak?
Well i talked to him and basically he told me that if any soldier conveniently "lost" a weapon the whole place would go on lockdown he said it's flat out illegal and punishable by courts marshal to use any weapon other than the one issued to you
so lets put that myth to bed shall weComment
