Well firstly because it's a good gun and secondly because Im a patriotic Brit and wanted to use the same gun as the RL British armed forces. But anyway. The L85 is an ok gun, but it's a bit of a strange duck. It's a weak gun, and seems to require more shots to kill than the other guns, especially the other medic guns. This is strange because the L85 uses the same round as the M16, the M4 and the SAW. It uses a better round than the AK47 and the AK101. Now, I could live with this, if the accuracy was what it's cracked up to be.

It's listed as "Accuracy: High" but actually it isnt accurate at all. It just has an excellent scope. If you rapid fire on semi-auto with the scope then the crosshairs will get just as wide as on full auto without the scope (ie as wide as the SAW). If the M16 had an excellent scope, or the G36, or whatever, they would be just as accurate. This seems a bit weird. In real life, the L85 is more accurate than the M16 and both versions of the G36, and it's MUCH more accurate than all that AK crap that seems to be hyperinflated in this game... now I realise that there is such a thing as game balance, and overall the L85 is a different / better in some circumstances gun which I still use, but it seems a bit odd that it is how it is. It's just downright bizarre that the corsshairs get as wide as the SAW even though it's probably the most accurate assault rifle in the world and the SAW is a light machinegun which fires rifle bullets.

Ok your a little confused. It does NOT use the same round as a m16 if it was a British SA-80 then yes it would but it isn't its the L8. Its a member of the SA80 family but its a smaller version more like a MP5 really. Personally though when i have used it i would say its pretty powerful more so than the spec ops guns.

If you want to use a SA80 then wait for the expansion and go as the SAS i know i will be :)

Not really, the M16 and the L85 use the same round, the 5.56NATO, what do you think the brits use 7.62, 5.45, 6.8mm rounds? They also use similar magazines as well, and BTW, the SA-80 carbine was going to use the 4.8mm round, but they don't have the carbine version anymore, in fact they don't use SA-80s, they use L85's, although they are basically the same family of guns.

Why is everyone so interested in what round what gun uses? This is a game. Some guns need balance tweaks. The Carbines (M4, G36C) are currently noob-cannons.

Indeed, since You have to be a noob to get the 36...

I think the reason the debate turned to RL weapons and their calibers is the complete lack of knowledge demonstrated by some of the posters here.

whoever said the ak74 fires 7. whatever rounds.. afaik it fires 5.whatever rounds, the ak101 fires nato standard round and the 103s back at the 47's rounds.

true, my bad.. i guess i forgot (2 years out of the military already hehe) but still it's 7.62... in medium to close range it's extremely deadly.

and the reason that US soldiers (and israelis too used to do it) take AKs from their enemies is the "survivability" of this weapon and the fact that dust/sand/mud don't effect it, other than that the western weaponry is better in about every other aspect

now you tell me which one is stronger?
No, some versions of the Ak-47 use 7.62mm Soviet and some use 5.45mm Soviet. And the NATO round is more powerful, because it moves faster than the bigger 7.62mm round. The downside is that the smaller round is less accurate over range, but considering that the AK47 barrel is 25% shorter than an L85 or M16 barrel whilst some of the versions using a larger round, the AK47 is less accurate despite that.

Oh, and dont trust that www.guns.ru (whatever it was) site. It's talking about the earlier versions of the L85 which were badly made. The L85A2 wasnt. It'll be a sad day when the L85 is replaced with a G36 / XM8 / other inferior piece of rubbish. What I'd like to see is them completely remake the L85. Keep it a bullpup, keep the SUSAT, but make a new bodywork and new internal parts to restore confidence in the gun. That's the main problem now - conifidence in the weapon, and sadly I dont think there's much anyone can do about it short of making a new gun.

What is funny about the medic unlock is the description. The guns accuracy...

Yes you can snipe with the scope portion of the gun, but overall how many bullets will you have wasted in an attempt to snipe someone from long range with the nasty recoil of the gun?

In single fire mode, you have to time the shots well enough to not suffer from the poor recoil reticle.

My point is if this gun has such high accuracy, why does it suffer from a very poor reticle. I would have found it fitting to have a similar reticle of the M16 in the game, but a tad larger. The way it is now, it blows up too fast causing innacuracy versus what the description of the gun states.

Does this gun in real life suffer from a high kickback?

I haven't unlocked the gun but the few times that I have used it from picking up kits off the ground it's an okay only for medium range prone firing in single shot mode (you have to be a good aim or the guy has to be standing still, and pause a little between each shot bam....bam....bam, not bam, bam, bam), in close quarter street combat the scope takes away your peripheral vision, unscoped and close up you have to still burst fire with it, the automatic fire doesn't mean you should hold down the button. Spray and prey doesn't suit this gun at all.

and the m16 isnt that good so dont argue with me bangbus, im smarter then you.

THE REASON WHY THE L85 IS SOOOO WEAK, IS BECAUSE BF2's DESIGHNERS HAVE NEVER SHOT A GUN IN THERE LIVES AND IF THEY DID IT WAS PROABLY A BB GUN CAUSE THATS HOW MUCH POWER THE WEOPONS HAVE IN THIS RETARDED GAME.

I guess maybe you are repeating what was actually said to be the case in Vietnam though apparently it was equally untrue then as well due to the friendly fire reason.
I have actualy heard that alot of our troops are infact trying to get aks as well, the ammo is literaly everywhere, you can get it from stockpiles that are captured by the us. And i dont think they shoot at sounds anymore like they did in vietnam, you have to remember that vietnam is a thick forest area where visability is blocked by leaves etc., Now Iraq on the other hand is a dessert and visabilty is very high.

It IS just a crap gun compared to Western arms. It's more rugged and reliable, which make it good for giving to conscripts etc. but in exchange for that it sacrifices any semblence of accuracy. There is a reason why nations with professional armies dont use guns that look like AKs, externally or internally.
The ak round is actualy a very powerful round and is accurate to 400 yards+, it is much bigger than the m16 round.
And btw, many many nations use the AK and guns similar to the AK. For instance

All guns are weak in the game, if i shot somebody with a 9mm pistol in the melon, they would die, in the game a shot to the head wiht a M16 doesn't even kill. So they really underpowered things, for balance though. And the M16 is superior in many ways to the AK 47, reliability is not one of them, cause you could run over the AK 47 with a truck, and you could still shoot with it. The M16 has more effective range, is lighter (but the M16A2 is kinda heavy compared to the other M16s), more accurate etc. The AK 47 does have a larger diameter round, so it is more lethal and stuff, there is already enough arguements about the M16 vs. AK 47. And BTW, Caps lock off please.

Im gonna beg to differ with you on that one. Even from a bench rest I had a hard time getting a respectable grouping with the 2 AK's Ive fired before (@ 200 yards). Now I can put rounds on paper, sure....but thats not accuracy. The AK is designed to be reliable and to put alot of lead down range, but when compared to the AR15 theres no contest when it comes to the accuracy. In response to so many countries using the ak, you have to take into account how cheap it is to make these rifles. Then again, if you want a quality firearm, buy an H&K..... the G36 is a work of art, too bad the only one I've ever fired was civi version in an ugly ass shade of light gray.
