L85 - Why so weak?

It's useful but it isnt everything. Something like the L85 is more complex and needs a lot of care, but it's not designed for conscripts / random people. It's designed for use by a professional army which is, i would argue, the best trained in the world and which can cope with the maintenance. I've never fought in a war. I dont know if you have, but on paper at least the L85 is superior to the M16 (this would probably be a widely held belief if the L85 hadnt been so shoddily built originally) and the M16 is superior to the AK47 (dont the later versions use 5.45mm Russian?) and the AK74. This view is certainly borne out by what has happened in Iraq. The entire country collapsed in virtually no time at all and none of the militants seem to be engaging with small arms. They're using bombs.Comment

The L85 performs awesome for me. It seems to work best for me if I can shoot it in 2-3 round burst on auto. And I love to switch it to single shot and go medium to long range behind cover
The AK does seem a bit overpowered compared to everything but its nothing that can't be overcome. Just keep practicing with the L85, I think you'll grow to love it.Comment

don't let patriotism get to your head, or how old are you? Half of the world use gun that looks like AK47, internally or externally.Originally posted by Praetorian145The AK has a crap round and people I know who spend way too much time with guns tell me that. It also has a very short barrel for an assault rifle. It IS just a crap gun compared to Western arms. It's more rugged and reliable, which make it good for giving to conscripts etc. but in exchange for that it sacrifices any semblence of accuracy. There is a reason why nations with professional armies dont use guns that look like AKs, externally or internally.
Mind you, "people you knew" was probably shotting up surpulus AK47 round. Real military uses different round.Comment

Actually the l85 does 32 damage per hit. So it takes 4 clean hits to down a target. If you hit some body armor it will take more. http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/16958
The gun is not a killers gun in this game, its a cautious medic gun. Which means use it at a distance to injury the enemy, heal yourself if you take shots Switch to full auto when going in to revive teammate in case you run into close combat. Also make note of the deviation on the third shot. The first two shots have a .3 deviation which means your shot may land as far as .3 radius of where the tip of the crosshair is placed. So aim for the chest at distances. As for the 3rd bullet in your burst, well it is now at .5 and every bullet after that is way worse. So when you shoot, shoot like this. tut,tut...tut,tut.... Your two shots will hit, so you can down a noob in two quick burst.
I may not have good stats, but I know my $hit.
Say no to stats farming, punish tk's and mods that cost money.Comment

As **** as it may be, it has been captured very well. As the gun itself is AMAZINGLY accurate for semi auto and sniping, but sucks as an all round assault rifle. With tales of the plastic metling and mechanisms breaking.
I do agree though, it should be WAY better, It should be basically have the same effect as the M16A2 ( if it had full auto ), and the AK-101 ( which DOES fire 5.56x45mm ammo like the rest ). I would have thought it should be the same if not, better and the only advantage is the scope.
Maybe they can fix it in the patch but i just never use it.Comment

Originally posted by Praetorian145My first (and only, so far =( ) unlock was the L85. Why? Well firstly because it's a good gun and secondly because Im a patriotic Brit and wanted to use the same gun as the RL British armed forces. But anyway. The L85 is an ok gun, but it's a bit of a strange duck. It's a weak gun, and seems to require more shots to kill than the other guns, especially the other medic guns. This is strange because the L85 uses the same round as the M16, the M4 and the SAW. It uses a better round than the AK47 and the AK101. Now, I could live with this, if the accuracy was what it's cracked up to be.
It's listed as "Accuracy: High" but actually it isnt accurate at all. It just has an excellent scope. If you rapid fire on semi-auto with the scope then the crosshairs will get just as wide as on full auto without the scope (ie as wide as the SAW). If the M16 had an excellent scope, or the G36, or whatever, they would be just as accurate. This seems a bit weird. In real life, the L85 is more accurate than the M16 and both versions of the G36, and it's MUCH more accurate than all that AK crap that seems to be hyperinflated in this game... now I realise that there is such a thing as game balance, and overall the L85 is a different / better in some circumstances gun which I still use, but it seems a bit odd that it is how it is. It's just downright bizarre that the corsshairs get as wide as the SAW even though it's probably the most accurate assault rifle in the world and the SAW is a light machinegun which fires rifle bullets.
exactly why i got it, and i also think its a pile of crap. i wish they would give us another gun OR change it so we can choose our unlock again!Comment

hmm, since i have been using the L-85 my kill to death ratio has shot up, i used to have like 1 kill 2 deaths, now i get *look at sig*Comment

Ok now in real life the AK, is a more powerful weapon. But with it's increase in power over the L85/M16, come less accuracy. The L85 and the M16 fire the same round, .223 rem. But the L85 is a bit more accurate. But knowing how EA is with every game they make, they have it where you need like 5 shots to kill someone.Comment

I would have to agree with champion, L85 is accurate, but it's so dang unreliable. I mean seriously, an assault rifle that let's it's magazine fall out consistantly, theres been a rumor that the British are adopting the G36 anywhere from 2006-2010. "In general, the only good thing about the L85 is its SUSAT 4X telescope sight, which is quite good and allows for accurate shooting. Even regardless of all internal bugs, found in the L85A1 rifles, these rifles are somewhat heavy and clumsy by modern standards, with most of the weight located toward the butt, which does not help to control the muzzle climb during the automatic fire." That's why there is so much recoil, the scope is the only thing good about it, but the scope also makes the soldiers get black eyes constantly, cause of the recoil, it would hurt their eye on every shot. L85A2 is not a very good weapon in real life, it's probably only going to last till 2010 tops, while other assault rifles like the M16 have been going for like 40-50 years, and the AK has been going for 58 years.Comment
