Just pretend your a developer or publisher. Then it doesn't seem so stupid.
I think it's kind of a cool idea. If they're adding new skins/weapons, they've gotta labor to create them. If it's fairly cheap, I don't see what the big deal is. Yes, it's profit oriented.
I'd pay a couple bucks for a nade launcher on my G3!!Comment

I have no problem with the subscription idea, but you can not do both, sell initial package at full price and add more to that later. It's like you bought a car at full retail price with cash and then asked to pay additional leasing charge every month for driving in it.Originally posted by joepez74Not surprising. I used to work for EA and trying to identify "subscription" models for incremental content was a big deal. We would talk about how to create incremental sales opportunities through content or access.
Don't be surprised to see this everywhere real soon. MS has already announced that additional content for 360 games will cost money, SOE has put up an auction for EQ, hell if you play any MMORPG you already pay for both the right to play and for any incremental content (expansions), Sony is looking at this option for PS3.
Expect that this will be the norm in the future for games like BF2 or any game where the publisher/developer creates additional content. Pay to play is the future.
On a side note, from a business perspective, this makes complete sense. From a consumer perspective (once you get over the BS "Everything should be free" line (read about the wonderful failure of communism/socialism before you endorse that view)) a reasonable charge makes sense. It continues to fund the ever expensive development team’s time and energy in supporting the game, vs. dumping it all together after release (the market is loaded with games whose support disappeared post patch 1). It is when companies start over charging (59.99 for a 360 game? or $15+ for a subs & $49 for a piece of cardboard holding 1 CD) that you start to get a little crazy, but then again that's the beauty of a capital market, vote with your $.Comment

You'll be surprised... People waste their money on the dumbest **** ever, EBAY can attest to that.Originally posted by HicRicTBH nobody in their right mind would pay EA that amount of money for a new skin or weapon when whole mods will be out there that are quality and free!
I don't think you know what naive means, buy a dictionary before you use "big words".Originally posted by Heinzit's amusing all of the "EA greed" responses. what naive people. gotta love the generation of stolen music off the internet, and the "entitlement" mentality.Comment

Originally posted by .Jake.Community made mods > EA modsEXACTLY! Community Mods and skins are ALREADY infinitely better than those that EA could/would provide. I have much faith in our community, and will enjoy what is produced for long time to come. The ONLY negative to community mods, is that mods wont be ranked/tracked... but, hey wait!!! That is the Positive as wellOriginally posted by HicRicTBH nobody in their right mind would pay EA that amount of money for a new skin or weapon when whole mods will be out there that are quality and free!Comment

Originally posted by PureBlueFlamesLots of the survey questions are about how much you want to pay for (specifically BF series) mods, updates, map packs from EA (one question asked me if I want to pay $4.99 for a new skin, how about that, $5.99 for a new weapon or something too). So free contents are history now?
Say no to the greedy b*****ds like I did.
No wonder why i Download everything. long live Piracy!Comment

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I think if they had done a better job of putting out a quality product with out the patching and repatching along with removing content that we may later pay for I would feel better about it.Originally posted by joepez74Not surprising. I think the mod community may toss a spanner in the work for that model as many may leave for the content and forget the stats.
That said, I would pay for expansions, if they provided a value to the game as a whole. Skins...nah. Maps and equipment, probably.Comment
