Have you been surveyed by EA recently? Looks like EA is trying to sell maps and mods

Lots of the survey questions are about how much you want to pay for (specifically BF series) mods, updates, map packs from EA (one question asked me if I want to pay $4.99 for a new skin, how about that, $5.99 for a new weapon or something too). So free contents are history now?

Say no to the greedy b*****ds like I did.

it's amusing all of the "EA greed" responses. what naive people. gotta love the generation of stolen music off the internet, and the "entitlement" mentality.

wow... you think musicians should get paid millions for doing absolutely nothing but sit on their butts and give people bad ideas? haha.

Side argument= the problem isn't musicians getting cash for nothing, actually that rarely happens. The record labels hire session musicians pay them a flat fee and pick up the lion shares of the royalties for years to come.

Point is... I think everyone should just download then fileshare so they don't have to buy cds. They cost pennies to make, then sell them for $15-$20.

what the hell?? EA are so dam greedy. How about they spend their time fixing the dam rather than taking surveys on how much more money they can make on shitty products. what a joke

Not surprising. I used to work for EA and trying to identify "subscription" models for incremental content was a big deal. We would talk about how to create incremental sales opportunities through content or access.

Don't be surprised to see this everywhere real soon. MS has already announced that additional content for 360 games will cost money, SOE has put up an auction for EQ, hell if you play any MMORPG you already pay for both the right to play and for any incremental content (expansions), Sony is looking at this option for PS3.

Expect that this will be the norm in the future for games like BF2 or any game where the publisher/developer creates additional content. Pay to play is the future.

On a side note, from a business perspective, this makes complete sense. From a consumer perspective (once you get over the BS "Everything should be free" line (read about the wonderful failure of communism/socialism before you endorse that view)) a reasonable charge makes sense. It continues to fund the ever expensive development team’s time and energy in supporting the game, vs. dumping it all together after release (the market is loaded with games whose support disappeared post patch 1). It is when companies start over charging (59.99 for a 360 game? or $15+ for a subs & $49 for a piece of cardboard holding 1 CD) that you start to get a little crazy, but then again that's the beauty of a capital market, vote with your $.
