Re: Solution to the game crash reboot problem?

This probably won't help everyone here, but if it helps 1 person, then it's worth it.

I was having all the same problems listed in here, with constant crashes to the desktop or a reboot while playing. Before I finally got it fixed, it was happening about every 10 minutes. I beleive my problem had to do with the BIOS version I was running on my motherboard.

Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe with 2 sticks 512MB Samsung DDR PC3200 running in single channel mode. I was using BIOS version 1008 when a friend mentioned updating it. When I checked ASUS website, I discovered that the 1013 version fixed a problem with the Samsung RAM, something I wasn't aware of. I now have my BIOS updated and am running the RAM in dual channel mode (I couldn't do that before, as it caused an overclocking error message on POST) and I've gone 4 days straight without even a hiccup. In fact on day 2 after the update, I ran the game for 8 hours straight. Not a single problem.

I know not everyone in here has the same setup, but if anyone is using the same MB I am, you might want to give this a try. Hope it helps. I know how frustrating this problem is.

I used to be able to play for a few hours without crashing, but it seems like after I updated my bios it happened more frequently.

Guys it has been a long 4 weeks that i have the same problem as all you guys. First of I would like to thank you all for the great suggestions you give!!!

          THE SYMPTONS
First let me begin whit what goes good:
          Single player: Hours of fun
Multi player (non punkbuster): Hours of fun

          Second what goes wrong:
          Multi player (Punkbuster):
          - 30 seconds MAX i get a blue screen whit a nvidia 6800 7777 driver
where it says (i wil translate the BSOD code) its a memory violation
          at kernel level.
          - 30 seconds MAX i get a blue screen whit a ATI 9800 pro catalyst 5.8
this blue screen has no code at all.

So what did i try to correct this problem. First of all i work at a computer shop so i can change my hardware p

I played BF2 demo and bought BF2 full when it came out. There were absolutely no problems whit BF2 whit update 1.01 and 1.02 i had no big problems. Sometimes it crashed but it was not a biggie.

The problems came when DISE/EA had the first problems whit the stats the weapons were all unlocked. Suddenly BF2 crashed in 10 seconds and my ATI gave weard artifacts in BSOD (realy weard).

So what did I think well artifacts pipelines etc etc hmmm this card ****ed lets change it for a 6800 Nvidia ( my first nvidia at home). Well the problem wasn’t solved it got bigger as I said before I got the code 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, xxxx, xxxx, xxxx) well this means that there was a kernel **** up where something wants to talk to a api or a specific memory address, but the kernel of windows (the work horse of windows) is already busy whit that specific part of the memory.

So when reading this forum I read that there where a lot of problems whit 3rd party hardware like soundcards and hardware accel of soundcards and windows services or bleutooth audio toys and others hardware and software.
I reckoned lets disable and close all toys in windows. Did had to effect that I could play maybe 10 min sometimes 30 but most of the time 10 seconds.
After different hardware driver updates a mainboard I toasted etc there still wasn’t a effect.

Then I tried to change the nvidia back for a 9800 pro. And now I get a blue screen whit absolutely no code after around 10 seconds of play in MP whit PB. As a last resort (don’t do this at home) I changed my kernel and changed all my registry hacks for memory usage but this didn’t help.

          THE REAL PROBLEM:
So what do I think is the problem Punkbuster is the problem it is really simple. There is a device/software (what is I cant tell it varies whit what install and hardware your using) that is found that doesn’t react in the way PB wants it to. This happened when your using the combi patch 1.02 whit the newest PB.

Solution wait till patch 1.03 I think it will solve a lot of frustration and hacking in windows and hardware.

Just wanted to thank SerbSniper1. I was having this exact same problem, and up reading his posts about Iomega drives, (Which I have an external CD writer), I downloaded the patch that was recommended in another thread, and it fixed my problems. I was at my wits end, had done and tested a lot of things, all to no avail.

Thanks man... I owe ya one

Its gonna be a single driver conflict with PUNKBUSTER, mine was the iomega driver/zip drive.

My problem happens during single player and other games too...which means it's a specific hardware issue for me. The thing is, it didn't use to happen in any other game, only bf2.

Me too mate, It cannot be a defective hardware issue/overheating as no other games have the problem and I run a lot of music creation programs which are very intensive on resources just as BF2 is.

Do you have a Creative soundcard by any chance? I am thinking it could be something to do with that as I didnt un-install the drivers when I swapped sound to onboard. Must try that when I get in from work.

OOPS ! Nvidia drivers on an ATI card, I don't think so!

IMHO you have just identified the problem m8.

You need to reconfigure your BIOS as it will only be running on a bear minimum set up you need to reconfigure all the bios settings a guru how to do it this link ..... [/u]]

Then uninstall and reinstall the game http://www.totalbf2.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18709 and all will be Tickety Boo.
