Solution to the game crash reboot problem?

Well the latest 77.77 Drivers from Nvidia sorted my problem. As soon as I started using them the problem does not happen anymore, fingers crossed.

Save your time on the reformat. I just installed a new HD and all of the latest drivers with a very clean XP Pro install. I then installed BF2 before anything else and still experience the crash/reboot issue. Driving me freaking nuts!!! I just don't understand why I can play for hours sometimes and other times I can't go for more than 20mins. This is frustrating as hell!

I have been getting this problem from time to time...what is odd is that I'll join a server and it'll lock me up/reboot me 3 times. join a diff server and the problem goes away completely.

So maybe its not the client side but rather the server/a combo of the client & server. Hopefully its an issue that can be corrected in the upcoming patch.

Its NOT your computer! Do'nt reformat unless you have nothing at all and lots of time. Its the game, scroll the forums. We have tried everything! EA and PUNKBUSTER are the problem. There techs can't even come up with a viable solution. But its 100% the game, the game code or PB. Wait till the 1.03 patch comes out and hope that fixes it! If not your wasting your time. Check my specs, Now my other computer is an AMD 3000 with a 5700 Ultra, (66.** driver), plays the game all day long on low settings, 1 gig of ram. Still gets the stuttering, and Disconnects. Why won't a superior computer play it? Your guess is as good as mine. I have tried everything in these forums and what the techs said. NADA So save it, nothing works.

Ive found that to be the case as well, I think its more server based than anything else (like the Linux server problem before). Everything else everyone has said has been the case with me as well. Sometimes its great other times its not. The 77.77 drivers have improved things for me a great deal but the problem is still there. All temps are normal, my PSU is fine, no real excuse for it since Im pritty good when it comes to conflicting drivers.

It's not the server issue for me. I just played on a different server and it still crashed after about 15 minutes. This is incredibly frusturating...I can't even play the game now.

Its weird I'll admit. Change things around, make some changes and sometimes you can play a while but it still returns. ANY time you make any changes delete the BF2 folder in my documents. That way you have a fresh configuring everytime. Reboot after delete and empty recycle bin. It helps. EA tech will tell you to do that. Erases all old profiles and junk.

I think i'm going to reformat anyway, maybe I can get it back to the point where I can at least play for a few hours.

Good Luck but that won't fix it, as soon as you reload everything and the patch its OVER. Save it till the new 1.03 patch comes out.

But what if the 1.03 patch doesn't fix it? Then I just wasted a few weeks of play time.


I updated punkbuster and it acted a little differently. After playing for a few minutes the game froze for like 5 seconds and then the textures on trees and bushes were really messed up. The game would then freeze like every minute or so for a few seconds and the textures were still messed up. The temp of the GPU was only around 60 celcius.

I had this same issue, sometimes CTD, sometimes just freezing then coming back with messed up textures (US flag coloured trees etc). I found that I needed to put my 6600GT (AGP) on its own molex with nothing else on it. Since then I have had over 3 hours playtime with no crashes.

I am fairly new to this game and I have been experiencing crashes. All you guys who are having the same problem, try playing single player for a couple of hours. If the game doesn’t crash then you will know it’s something to do with the servers. I’ve played single player for hours with no problems but playing online the game will either play ok for an hour or so, or only for 15 mins and crash. So unless someone has a definitive answer, I would agree with SerbSniper1, it’s the game and not your drivers or hardware. Another easy test is to play something else. I have no problems playing I-L2 Pacific Fighters with everything set at max or Silent Hunter 3. Cool games
