Mini-Mods taking GigaBytes of Space ?

Ive just downloaded 2 Mini-Mods, and both need me to copy the /Levels from /bf2 over to the Mini-Mod Directory.

    Whats up with that ?
    2 Mini-Mods ( 2 MegaBytes all in all ) taking up 2 GIGABYTE of Space ?

In Quake3 the Mods can easily load up the maps from the Base-Game - is that not possible in BF2 ? Or have ppl just not discovered it yet ?

This really hinders Mini-Mods, imagine dozens of them coming out in the future - and you cant try them because your HD doesnt have enough Space..

Oh come on, say it isnt so :).

I think it could have been easy to iclude a method for the filemanager-Object to mount Folders on Folders , not just Archives, but there is no such method, you can just mount Archive-files on Folders and the Levels are in there own Folders , so you have to copy all the Level Folders to every mod you want play with the original Maps.

Someone could make a program to move around levels between mini-mods for you. That way atleast you have just one set, and don't have to wait for the copy operation either.

I know for a fact that in BF1942, you could easily just load up a level from another mod and change it around....

Why you need a program, theres an DOS/Windows Command called 'move'.
              Its really fast.
Just add the move command to the .bat files that start your mods , but you have to obtain when you move the level folder then its location has changed, so if you have more then one mod you have to insert all possible mod-locations to move your files.

              for instance:

              move /Y ..\bf2\Levels .
              move /Y ..\realism\Levels .
              move /Y ..\bfe.06\Levels .

you can define a central move_levels.bat where you insert all your mods and then you just have to callup this file in your modstart.bat

Most people do, but why would you want to waste all those GBs with repetative files. Not only does that slow down you HD by cramming it with totally useless junk, you also cant put important stuff on it. Also those 2gbs multiply fast. with just 5 mods you already cover 10gigs in just level files alone, let alone any custom models/skins and all that other crap.

Ill see if there is a way. The move thing doesnt work because it will move it from the original BF2 folder to the mod folder making the original one not working. Im seeing if there is a way to direct it to a specific folder.

This is a very serious issue that DICE/EA needs to look into. The old method where it would load levels from the base mod was much better. I have no idea why they decided to switch to this method.

Yeah, its the stupid levels folder, coz it copies them over, hopefully we would find a way that doesnt do that.

God it better not stay like this - Halo CE modding community can't do total conversions easily because the map is modded not the game data, this doesn't seem too different. Somebody work on a fix for the love of god...
