bunny hopping worth doing?

I say when in rome, do what the romans do. Bunny hopping I find helps to give me a few extra seconds when I get caught pants down with half a clip of ammo and require a combat reload, but I refuse to bunny hop and shoot at the same time. Frankly, if it's going to be a tactic, be prepared to use it, and face off against it. Don't rely on it, but don't be afraid to give them a dose of their own medicine :)

I never " bunny Hop " around like an idiot, but jumping once certainly helps me and my DAO get closer to an opponent, especially if he is watching me run at him like a fool on a death mission

I get more satisfaction of killing someone up close. running at someone and firing the shotgun has the same effect as getting run over from a bus :laugh:

but there are those that hop n hop n hop, and these guys really piss me off. Anything more than once and you are a girlie man. :nod:

I agree with Laike. I can get all pissed off at it or give it right back to them. My abilities aren't based around it in the least so if I don't do it, nothing lost.

Not to mention I love blowing them out of the air when then think they can hop towards me and not die. :laugh: ...idiots...

I noticed you can bunnyhop pretty good in this game by holding sprint, releasing in the jump, then sprinting for a split second again before jumping again. Not only can you jump high but you are (it seems) atleast as fast as normal sprinting so I imagine it would make you hard to hit. The problem is that it eats your stamina really quick.

Do you guys ever bunnyhop? is it ever worth doing?

I hate it and looks stupid but you know what. It works for the guys who do it. I can shoot whole clipps into people and they are untouched. I hope EA fixes this.

Having played Quake (3 mostly but some QW too) competitively for quite some time I'm a bit biased when it comes to this. I don't think there's anything wrong in learning a new skill that gives you an advantage. More games need it in my opinion. Just as aiming and tactics are viable skills you gain over time straffe jumping should not be seen any different. It's not hard to learn and everyone can do it. Also, as has been pointed out in this thread, you can learn to stop it. I find someone who's proficient at straffe/bunny hopping can use the same experience to stop others using it.

Whether or not it parallels "real life" should be a non-issue in this video game @_@

Nobody is preventing you from jumping, only difference is you suck at it and they dont.

What the hell are you talking about? Its not possible to "suck" or be "good" at bunnyhopping. All you have to do is keep pressing the spacebar when you're fighting someone. ANYBODY can do that. And thats why people hate it. It takes no skill to press the spacebar in a firefight, and all that matters is whether or not you're doing it. Its a completely pointless "feature" that does nothing but make the game look stupid.


octa01, this isn't like the bunnyhopping like you see in games like quake and TFC. Bunnyhopping in the quake and TFC games require a certain skill of being able to time keyboard and mouse movements correctly to build up speed. Bf2's "bunnyhopping" is just mashing the spacebar over and over. There isn't any speed advantage, its just a pointless action that makes you harder to hit.

With so many complaints against this practice in the game, I am sure this will be changed soon. The act is out of control and the players who do it know full well they are exploiting a hit box problem when they are taking fire. Seems as if not enough hit box detection was added for when the person is in midair.

So if players want to jump around like a clown to exploit, they should lose control of their weapon and not be able to return fire.

Why?

Of course there are unrealistic things in BF but these are mostly shortcuts. Bunnyhopping isn't a battlefield tactic. It isn't required to satisfy the arcade nature of BF but its use does detract from the battlefield atmosphere the game is trying to create. There is simply no reason for it to be there and no reason why it should remain.

I faced an entire team of MEC bunny hoppers yesterday. Not a single one ran normally, even when they were just walking along.

I have successfully killed all but one bunny hopper that tried that crap on me. You just have to anticipate their movements. And a nice piece of armor with a big gun helps a lot also. :laugh: Bunch of 14 year old bunny hoppers. Ha!

Ahh I did not know it didn't give a speed advantage, thank you for clearing that up. If it's only advantage is to deform hitboxes then yes I agree it's being used an exploit. The term is highly misleading considering it's origins :)

i can never not get hit when hopping. but i can never hit the bunnies...i guess i suck

heh same here. if i have the SAW, i can hit them but anything else forget it. most of the time they still kill me when i use the saw.
