Jep and its much better if those noobs actually work toghetr to hold the frontline and not letting slip playesr through so the flags are safe and all personal is on the frontline, then for example if you are usa on Karaknd you can have a "Bridge to far cenery" at the brdige near MEC base, that is one of the coolest things about Karkand(if those noobs would also actually hold the waterway)

Also a load of players huddled around an area is an enemy artillery magnet, first thing the opposing commander will do is bomb you to hell. Worst mistake I've seen is players not moving for a while, makes you vulnerable.

Just opening the argument for the other side.

What the **** is up with this, every time on this forums some ****ing ***** comes along, and begins calling everyone else that doesn ot play like they do, a ****ing noob, statwhore.
Have you evry though that you might be a ****ing sitting duck, like SNJ said, you can be easly arty'd, bombed, and the flag easly retaken. Plus why should you stay and play with your dick the whole match, when you can go an bring the fight to the enemy, besides in this game on a 64 player server, theere are a lot of flags, the enemy will simly go in and take an undefended flag while you sit back here wondering whats going on. They can't do that when they are busy defending their flag. Plus you have teh advantage of surpirse. If your whole team played like you, you would be quickly boxed in becasue the enemy would take all the surroudning flags, and tehn they would spawncamp your ass. If your not concerned with your stats like you say you are, then just go and attack, and when you see a flag in trouble, just suicide and respawn at the flag, yes suicide. It's really not that bad, better then letting a flag be taken, because it would otherwise take you 5 min to come to that flag.

Well I think it all boils down to strategy, you can't be predictable and you have to react to your opponent with what you think you got.

Sometimes that will mean a lot of attacking, sometimes defending, but certainly a 'sitting duck' is not what you want to be.

However there are many many different ways of defending flags, AT-mines, a Spec-Ops just plants C4 around area, moves to next flag and waits for the right time (works well and is quite a rush), claymores etc etc

And lets face it, wether you play for points, medals, teamwork or just to ensure the win, it all boils down to tickets, causing your opponent to lose more tickets than you.

And that mean killing more of them and making sure they stay dead, so obviously your strategy will have to evolve to meet those needs.

If you left a token force at each captured flag, your chances of holding that flag would be increased three fold. But as Pointguard mentioned, there are no teams in the pubs. I agree with SNJ to a point. Strategy is fluid, and must change according to your opponent. But as a rule, it's always a good idea to leave at least 1-2 men at a flag, at least to spot heavy resistance and request an arty.

it can also get boring. If the rest of your team is fighting at other bases, and few if any enemies get near your flag. What do you do?

I know it's helping the team, but it's boring and not fun. If the enemy is consistently attacking a flag (or it's our last) i'll try to defend. But one man can only do so much.

There are very few flags worth defending. They are usually the one in the middle of the map that everyone constantly fights over other than that flag defense is boring as hell. I would much rather try and take another flag and have the possiblity of having to turn around and retake the one I left. Besides that when you see a flag that isn't in the middle being retaken its usually by very few people. Which means you can go back and easily take them out in most cases.

defending flag at operation clean sweep at the airport as mec is big fun and good points :) . get hold of a tank park it next to the stinger on the runway and switch between em. you will shoot a lot of planes and bh. and infantry coming over hill are easy to spot and shot with your tank. only armor that will aproach is apc...youll win ofcourse. and be engi btw.

Good responses on reasons. I do a lot of defending. I mean a lot. It can get boring, but it pays off. I am aware of incoming artilliary, so I stay in buildings, or have cover. Even from attack helis, and jets. I end up in some games 6 points, then next map 30. Then a few times, I ended up with a silver, just for defending one areas alone throughout the game. I really have problems attacking in the crowd. I end up with Tk's or getting Tked', when I do not mean to. It is choatic, and really difficult and impossible to regroup everyone. Every game, wondering how in the heck do these top guys do it. I will never will ask em, or take advice. I have my ways, and so do they. I found on each map, weak spots. Their is 2 maps that do have weak spots, and very impossible to defend. But I do my defending a flag on these maps. If flag is taken over, I will do all out my tricks to get that flag back for my team. Game over when all flags taken, and all team mates have fallen.

Like some say here. It is best to have 2-3 stay at a flag after capture, and the rest go get theirs. As long as more the half of the flags on the maps are taken, and on a defense. Tickets will fall rapidly on the enemy. The highest I seen for flags to capture on a map is 7. So, if can hold more than 4 flags of 2-3 team members defending, and the rest out to capture also some out to put up a front before going into flag bases. But all this is unlikely to happen. Although my point is more, why leave a flag base totally empty after capture. I never been a commander yet, only a few seconds to get a ammo crate, lol. I can understand their fustration.

                  Observation:
I notice when the enemy comes in (2 people), to get that flag. They get killed. Next round they will come back ticked off, but now with 4. Then 6, then next round 20. Defending flags can be very challenging. The enemy is all out now to get that flag, and it does get crazy. Their is another way of knowing when all this is about to start, just for sitting there defending that flag base. People will call it boring, and will start yawning. And want to move. So half of the game, is totally nothing. Then next thing, a artilliary strike is accuring. Meaning, the enemy is now moving in. The commander gave that order. So, now I wait. Here they come, and the battle starts, then finishes. Second wave now coming in..then third. A wave can be long and teadous. Boredom and yawning is no more. Players forgot about it.

                  robodoc:
I do the same for that map. It is awesome. I really dislike when people take the vehicles out of that flag base. Those are needed there, and not to be taken to the other side of the map.

one thing that's kind of disappointing. if you're defending a flag properly, you won't get many 'flad defended' points. When I set up to defend, I try and take the enemy out before they get to the flagpole. the defend zone is too small (should be larger than the cap zone around the pole)
you also have to have a good commander to defend well. he has to understand that's what you are doing, and that he needs to resupply. depending on the map, i will usually defend as an assault, if there's a lot of armor I'll be AT or specops (and plant c4 around the pole and at the entrances)
but I'll run out of ammo after defending 2 or 3 times, and if the commander isn't paying attention I'm screwed

This is a big, big gripe of mine.

HE WHO HOLDS THE REAL ESTATE WINS THE GAME

This is a vast oversimplification, but in essence, it's true. You can't win the game if you have to spend your time re-taking flags, or trying to regain valuable assets. Kubra Dam is a perfect example. MEC MUST hold the back base where all the air assets are. If they don't, they will enjoy nonstop fun being attacked from the 3rd dimension EVERYWHERE on the map.

Yes it can be dull to hold a particular spot on the map, but it's an important job in the grand scheme of things.

And you can get a good point reward for it. My best round on Clean Sweep happened Friday where my teammates and I held one of the central bases. Between the kills, kill assists, flag defends, and outright destruction of moving things, I ended up with 44 points. I think I was 4th in that round. Not bad for non-whoring of vehicles.

So the possibility to get the win for the team and for yourself is possible through defending. Yes you will have dodge artillery, and deal with smackheads who run off with your vehicles. I still think it's one of the best jobs in the game.

                      J.

Luckely(?) for me I play with friends and we defend flags such as the TV station on Sharqi. It gets BORING and most of the time we only get about 10 killz each round but it's better than losing or not having that chopper to back us up.

The tanks and APC's are Fast attack vehicles(RIGHT?). I only defend with them when they base is currently under attack.
I usually (at the start of the map, when playing as MEC) create a squad "TWRATTACK". Then I go for the tower with boats, or whatever means. People join quickly. Then 6 of us take over the tower, I issue "DEFEND" command, and either people leave the squad, or they just run away from tower. I've been left alone to defend tower countless times, and usually I can't defend it alone (except by placing C4 around the flag, then going to hide somewhere). So we lose it, and then we attack it again, etc, etc.

When playing as USMC, I create a squad that needs to defend the tower. Again, I often end up staying alone at the tower.

I've played maybe 3-4 games, so far, where squad actually defended the tower. People can't understand that defending doesn't mean "stand on the top of the tower and wait", but you can also grab a tank and go down to the fence, you can spread on the left-side hill, go around the fence (towards the see), etc.

We didn't have many points, but our teams always won. Key to Sharqi is the Tower, and who keeps it for most time - wins (at least from my experiences so far).
