    Why do you leave?

    Example on a 64player map.

99% of the time, I see this as defending a flag. A whole wave of team members capture a flag with a good fight. Then when captured. Everyone starts scattering away to other flags. That flag capture base is now totally empty. I mean it is now vulnerable for the enemy to take it over. I have never seen a squad of players capture a flag and stay there, like if they own it for the effort that went into getting that base. Then wait for the enemy to return into taking it back. I had team mates join my squad and then run around the map. I can not tell them what to do. But my squad title says it all "Defenders" and not "Attackers" Why join, then run away when the order is to stay and defend this flag. Do not run away and do not worry, the enemy will be here. It does get busy after a few minutes of silence. Or yet half of the game totally nothing. Then waves of enemy come in to capture that flag. Now it is getting busy, then it gets wild. Some have no patients at all and want to run. I sit in my tank, and I get the message "Lets go!". No way dude...I am waiting for these Blackhawks and/or enemy, and holding this base. You want to leave...go run with and into the crowd, then accidently get tked or do a tk. This is why we can never lay mines. Tanks/Bmps are at flag bases for a reason. They never stay there. Also that base is vulnerable for the enemy to take that flag by jumping into those empty tanks/bmps. As a good defender, let the enemy come to that base with tanks/bmps. Then engineers will have a good time, laying down those mines.

I always tell players. Do not take the vehicles out of this important area (the weak spots of a map). And you know what they do?..they take em out when I try to have an armored vehicle for myself, but then I am faced with the enemy alone that are using tanks and bmps. No foot soldiers. I could have laid mines on the road, but I am unable to, due to friendlies in a hurry, taking the vehicles out of important bases. Then friendlies return with vehicles from else where to fight the enemy in that base. It is like no tomorrow, when playing BF2.

They leave for their stats, they want killz and points thats all.

Luckely(?) for me I play with friends and we defend flags such as the TV station on Sharqi. It gets BORING and most of the time we only get about 10 killz each round but it's better than losing or not having that chopper to back us up.

The tanks and APC's are Fast attack vehicles(RIGHT?). I only defend with them when they base is currently under attack.

They want stats.... not to sit around at a flag.

There are no "teams" in a pub server.

If they changed it so you got 5 points for a flag defend I'm sure a lot more would hang around. They really need to tweak it because it's just rat race from one flag to another and back again.

Bottom line, Dice decided to award a megar amount of points for defending the flag. As a result, everyone goes elsewhere to get into some action. It can be fixed by simply awarding properly for defending the base.

I don't understand what the big attraction to points is... I mean, weapon unlocks? They barely even make a difference

Actually, I wouldn't say it's just points. The reason why is that this same thing happened in Battlefield 1942. Rarely would players stay to defend... they were always going to take the next flag.
The best thing to do is play with friends. Or play on a good server where players who join your squad will obey your commands. I just played about 8 games with 2 friends and 3 other guys. We defended plenty of flags and had a great time. But most players aren't smart or patient enough to do such things.

There could be a simple fix to this. Rather than having the CP defense points come from the enemy being on the CP, there could be a radius around the CP for which you get defend points for. For example, while defending the US TV tower on Sharqi one would get a defend point for killing an enemy within a 50-100 meter radius of the flag. Most of the time if you defend a base you kill the enemy before they even get on the flag. Thus, if there was a wider radius for which points were given, it would give more incentive to defend. More points for defend would be nice too. For crying out loud, you get 4 points for taking a flag alone, but get 1 point for defending it alone? It's as if EA/DICE think ring-around-the-flag is a fun game.

That's a pretty good idea, just watch the exploiters as with any situation.

Stat whores, they think they need stats to get respect from other teamates. I'm a private first class, since i have lives unlike some people and only play like every other day for like 1-2 hours, and i'm on vacation in china, so i onlhy had like 2and a half weeks to play, but on the servers that i play on, i am constantly on the top 3. And yeah the defending idea is good, but some spec ops or medics with unlocks as well as snipers will shoot anyone in the radius, even though they're just running past. Exploiters will find out ways, and stat padders will start doing that too, three friends go on the same server, they go near a flag, there will be two guys on one team, the guy on the other team is support, he kills one guy on the other team, the other guy on that teak revives him etc. and the suport person who kills will get extra points every time.

We could sit here and post strategies and do's and dont's all day long
but the simple fact is a LOT of people are just playing because the they
think the sound of a machine gun at the click of a mouse is the coolest
thing they ever saw... and are not interested in strategy, team play, etc..

                            :)

When you get lucky enough to get a decent pack of guys on your
team the game is real contest..and fun.. I had to command the last
few games I played in because nobody on the team took the role and
we were getting ate up.. but.. watching some of your teammates on
the radar sometimes makes you wonder what they are doing..

people just dont pay attention.. if you want competitive play, you will
more likely have to get it in a league or tourny...

Not that I'm sticking up for ppl that don't play as part of a team or that don't play to help their team, but...

Have you considered that if everyone was defending then who's gonna take your next flag and keep your enemy defending flags themselves instead of attacking yours?

Also a load of players huddled around an area is an enemy artillery magnet, first thing the opposing commander will do is bomb you to hell. Worst mistake I've seen is players not moving for a while, makes you vulnerable.

Just opening the argument for the other side.
