    rounds running choppy at start??

Everytime I start a round in BF 2 (multiplayer or singleplayer) the graphics and sound is REALLY choppy for about 2 minutes. Then everything usually starts to run fine. Why is this happening??? Also during this choppy behavior I notice that my harddrive is really working hard at something, and when the game finally does get smooth, the harddrive sort of goes back to normal?!

Here is a complete list of my setup to aid in troubleshooting:

its ur textures. i know you have a 7800GTX, but i think you still need 2gb to play with textures on high. I had this same problem.

I got the extra gig and this "stuttering" that you described only occurs for 5-10 seconds now rather than 2 minutes

          Model 3500+
          Stepping E3
          Frequency 2200Mhz
          HT Speed 2000

          CMOS Technology 90nm SOI
          Socket Socket 939

If you get this one you dont have to over clock it.

answer F*ucked up your CPU! NOT COOL!

you will run the 3500+ at 2.21GHz with your 1024MB and you will be fine.
once you cooked a CPU theirs no going back. Thats like hart damage. cant gange the past nor can you push it any faster!

            Oh try this.

I know for sure this will work.
Open you computer up, pull that battery on you mobo out for 10 seconds and put it back in and no more clitches, oh and check your plugs to al of your mobo.

Dude what are you telling him here? He's fried his CPU, check his mobo connections and whip is mobo battery out. WTF. For a start that's gunna reset all his BIOS to default and likely make his problem worse not better. If you had wires or major connections loose on your mobo you'd have bigger problems than stuttering in game and much, much bigger problems if his CPU was fried.

He hasn't even overlclocked his CPU. He's got a 3000+ running at 2.0Ghz which is exactly what it should be unless he has socket 939 which he probably hasn't? EVen if he has it's a relatively small overclock.

You need more RAM. That is all.

The 3000+ is fine for a 7800GTX. All GPU's scale with CPU's yes but it's neverending. The main point should be is my CPU DRASTICALLY holding back my GPU. In this case no it isn't.

You need more RAM. That is all.

I NEVER SAID HIS CPU IS FRIED! it will be tho.
Ok look, the CPU is the hart of the Computer the thing is overclocked! sounds like a CPU going BAD!, Yeah it clocks at 2.0 but you have to think if you over clock any thing to your going to need one COOL CPU heat senk. Reset the bio's to default and run it from there at 1.8MHz. Trust me!
And you said," the 3000+ are ok with that card!" THEN HE WILL BE FINE REBMER! IM SAYING DO NOT OVER CLOCK YOU CPU WITH OUT THE PROPER COOLING FANS! AND IF IT GETS TO HOT IT WILL HAVE GLITCHES AND SLOW THE THING DOWN! NO MATTER HOW HARD OR FAST YOU PUSH IT!
you don't know what the hell your talking about dude! So your saying with a 7800 GPU and 1024 of Ram and a cpu that runs at 2.0MHz? Shouldn't he have no problems? ADD MORE RAM? thats CRAP! LOOK THE only thing I see RONG with what he has is HIS CPU!!!!!!!!!
GET A FASTER ONE AND DONT OVER CLOCK!
                Awwww I feel better!

Dude did you even read my post. I think not. 3 people come in and say RAM before you and you go off like an idiot. Heres what you're missing and here's why you sound like a fool. HE HASN'T OVERCLOCKED. Shock horror. Socket 754 3000+'s DO run at 2000Mhz as STANDARD. It's the socket 939's that run at 1800Mhz as standard. I'm betting he has socket 754. Even so like I said if he has overclocked it isn't a big overclock and that CPU can take it fine with decent cooling. I've been running an overclocked barton for 18 months without a single hicup.

Dude everyone on here and I do mean everyone has been telling people to upgrade to at least 1.5GB or 2GB RAM to stop the stuttering. The stuttering comes because the game wants more RAM than you have so it has to pull data from the hard drive which is a lot, lot slower. Notice also how he said his hard drive is doing lots of work. Loads of people have had this problem and it's all over the forums.

I've already said once ANY GPU scales with ANY CPU it's a question of how bad it is. Of course a 3500+ will run a 7800 better that's not in doubt. Is it worth upgrading for. Probably not especially if it means changing mobos aswell.

If you don't know what you are talking about you should keep quiet as it's people you spreading crap like that that makes computers so confusing for a lot of people. You are a total numpty withouth the first idea what you are talking about. If he had listened to you he would be sat there with a default BIOS and no doubt more problems. Please do not listen to this guy.

                          i thought 3000+ run at 1.8GHz. Cause my 3200+ runs at 2.0GHz

It's loading various resources into the cache for the first part of a level- as you move around and encounter new resources it needs to cache- textures, models, etc....

If you lower your textres to medium or low that will help a lot. You shouldn't have textures at High without 256mb of video ram anyway... it slows down the game a lot fps wise since most of your textures will be loaded outside of the v-ram.

                              Yeah.

The dude has a bad ass GPU and a slow CPU. Hummm
thats like a sniper useing a hand gun to play BF2 at 1000 years. It just don't work.

No Reset you bios if it's over clocked and you got bad setting as is, to go back to the defult set up. Start fresh. If you have a 939 pin your over clocking, BF2 dose not like OCing computers, Ive seen it for my self. The only time you should over clock is if your computer needs it. ChopperKill need's it becouse his computer is very SLOW! and can't run it with out doing so. Don't over clock the CPU, and think you will be ok with a better GPU, Sure get all the ram you can get! :hmm:
                              I bet with the mobo runing a 754 tops out a 2Gb's : )
