Serious Lag - My Problem?

I have been playing Battlefield 2 online these days - 32 or 16 player maps and I expect lag everytime - and it lags everytime. I get 15~20 frames per second and this is bad enough that I have VERY BAD TIME aiming at moving players. Yes, I get owned really hard in close quarters. All my settings are on Low / Off / 800x600 resolution.

These are my system specs and my computer is 4 years old:

Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
GeForce FX 5700LE 256mb DDR RAM [77.72 version]
1.25 Gigs of DDR RAM - 1 giga + 256 mega sticks from Samsung

What can the problem be? My computer is pretty cooled and I have just defragged my hard drive. I also cleaned up bits of crap with AdAware and other tools. I did cleanup utilities and I have 14 gigabytes of storage left, of my 55 gigabyte hard drive.

What can the problem be? I mean, there are people with lower specifications than my computer and play in Medium settings? WTH!?!? I mean... what is WRONG with my computer??!!

Have you turned down the sound and disabled EAX? Also you can try updating PB manually, these are a few solution I've read in other posts for your problem.

yeah its odd i have a p4 2.53ghz 1024mb pc3200 corsair ram and a fx5600 256mb gfx card (not as good as yours).

I had it running at 800x600 with 2x AA which lagged me loads and yeah i was getting owned close up so i turned AA off completely and now my fps still isn't fantastic but its good enough to dramatically improve my ability to shoot people and surprisingly it doesn't look too bad.

have nvidia drivers set to performance mode, no AA, no AF, no V-sync
turned off any background applications? (especially anti virus, network programs)
set video hardware acceleration to full?
updated PB?
turn off eax, set to low sound...
turn off FW (see if it makes a difference)
make sure all pc drivers are updated
does it play smooth in single player?

What's wrong with LE? Dude, I dont want to buy another graphics card. I got that for $150 or so.

Well having AA on is going to be the biggest hog. I'd disable that first.
Right click on the desktop and select properties. Click settings and advanced. There you'll be able to chang the acceleration from Quality to Performance using the slide. You may have to search through the tabs until you find it as I'm not familiar with Nvidia properties.
FW is your Firewall. You may or maynot have one.
PC drivers include but not limited to. Chipset drivers(Motherboard), Video and Audio Drivers. Those are the big 3.
Being that you have trouble in single player I'd say it's hardware related and or driver related.

I didn't get any improvement from the last game after I did everything. However, the Nvidia settings say: "Application-based" on performance/quality thing.

Well, I need help!! What can be actually wrong with my computer? I have 1 gigs of RAM and 256mb DDR RAM of graphics...

And what's so bad about GeForce FX 5700LE?? Is LE bad? How?

Alright. I think I know what the problem is: the CPU.

Is there a big difference in frame rates between 2 GHz and 3 GHz? Because you are running 3 GHz while my CPU is 2 GHz. Ugh... I always wondered if CPU's make a big difference in games...

LE's are scaled down versions of there stock cousins.
For example a 6800LE is a nerfed 6800 (although still a capable card, it's not really designed for major gaming use)

More memory only means that more textures can be loaded into the cards memory, not how fast they are processed.

The 5700LE it's memory clocked at 250MHz but is only 128bit DDR whilst the stock 5700's memory is 300MHz and 128bit DDR2.
Theoratical peak performance of the LE is ~1000 Pixel fill rate (Mpixels/sec) and a Memory bandwidth of ~8.00 GB/sec.

Just for comparison the 6800GT's memory is 500MHz 256bit GDDR3 with a theoretical peak performance of ~5600 Pixel fill rate (Mpixels/sec) and a Memory bandwidth of ~32.00 GB/sec.
