Serious Lag - My Problem?

i dont think its the cpu, or the gc.
cuz i have a atholon xp 2500+ which is 1.8 ghz.
my ram is 512mb. n my graphics card is a fx5200
i still get decent fps.. altough there is always the ocasional "conection probs lag..."

About the mixed RAM -> I took off the 256mb stick, so what I have now is just 1 gigabytes of RAM.

I am also thinking of reformatting and running that Battlefield 2 optimization guide...

But seriously, with a decent computer, I'm getting 15~20 fps throughout the game. This is really killing me because I get OWNED at close range stuff, like Mashtuur City / Sharqi Peninsula/ Strike at Karkand (my favorite map!)

Vid card is not good enough, ram is marginal, better than 512mb but 1.5-2gig is what you need for Bf2. Cpu is also on the low side and is also marginal. This is the game that will require you to update and it looks like you need a new machine. Also check that pb updated properly if you ran pbweb.exe it doesn't always work the 1st time, but that wouldn't explain why you get crap performance for single player as well. Forget trying to use AA your system can't handle it.

Seriously your PC is far from decent for BF2, it may play all other games well but BF2 is a different kettle of fish and it doesn't look like its coping well.

Hmm... could you tell me a list of parts to upgrade? I'm not going to upgrade my graphics card for a while. I spent too much money on that one...

Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
Samsung 1 gig DDR RAM
GeForce FX 5700LE

Now, what I'm thinking is getting another 1 gig stick of RAM, another motherboard, and a new processor. What do you guys think about that?

By the way, does it matter if I mix different company's RAM sticks?

Help!! >_< I want to play Battlefield 2 without lag!!

I have been playing Battlefield 2 online these days - 32 or 16 player maps and I expect lag everytime - and it lags everytime. I get 15~20 frames per second and this is bad enough that I have VERY BAD TIME aiming at moving players. Yes, I get owned really hard in close quarters. All my settings are on Low / Off / 800x600 resolution.

These are my system specs and my computer is 4 years old:

Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz
GeForce FX 5700LE 256mb DDR RAM [77.72 version]
1.25 Gigs of DDR RAM - 1 giga + 256 mega sticks from Samsung

What can the problem be? My computer is pretty cooled and I have just defragged my hard drive. I also cleaned up bits of crap with AdAware and other tools. I did cleanup utilities and I have 14 gigabytes of storage left, of my 55 gigabyte hard drive.

What can the problem be? I mean, there are people with lower specifications than my computer and play in Medium settings? WTH!?!? I mean... what is WRONG with my computer??!!

Well, I think it's your video card. Many people say that any LE card sux. And check your sound setting, disable eax. That might help. And do you have your firewall/antivirus/antispyware running, try disabling them because they take much resources and bandwidth.

What's wrong with LE? Dude, I dont want to buy another graphics card. I got that for $150 or so.

turned off any background applications? (especially anti virus, network programs) -> Yes
set video hardware acceleration to full? -> How do I do this? Where?
updated PB? -> Yes... just now, after I read this post
turn off eax, set to low sound... -> Alright, I'll do it
turn off FW (see if it makes a difference) -> What is FW? Where can I access it?
make sure all pc drivers are updated -> What do you mean PC drivers? I updated my graphics driver to 77.72 :P
does it play smooth in single player?-> No... just a tidbit better than multiplayer - or maybe no difference

dude, gefore 6600gt/6800 is only 160 bucks nowadays. Think of it as an investment.

Ugh... it looks like there is another on the list of things to buy then... sigh

my 128mb 6600gt is faster than my old 6200 with 256mb memory. it is the clock speed and pipeline that makes the difference

but athlon xp 2500 1.8 ghz>Pentium 4 2.0ghz. I got an amd Sempron 3000+ (1.991 ghz), 1.5gb RAM, and 128mb 6600gt, yet I can play bf2 on high 1024x768 (with occasional lag of course).
