I hope this doesn't come off as complaining but many times I find myself piloting an attack helicopter in Battlefield 2 with a gunner on board and I tend to spot enemy units on the ground before my gunner does... I can fly right up to an enemy infantry unit, hovering ten feet away and my gunner will just sit there and do nothing. Usually in these circumstances I will fire off a missile or two at the infantryman in an attempt to either kill him or bring awareness of his position to my gunner. If in doubt as a gunner, check your map for friendlies and if none are in the area of suspected hostility, fire away at ever possible hiding spot. If in your random spirts, you get an X in your crosshair, you know there's an enemy in that area. I know this all sounds like obvious info but more often than not I find gunners to be too reluctant to pull the trigger on their machine gun. Another tactic that I find to be invaluable as a gunner is to immediately press the C key to change your view to get rid of the cockpit and open your visual to encompass a larger area. Note that you have to press the C key to reset this view after each firing of the TV guided missiles, for after firing these missiles, the gunner's view goes back to the default in-cockpit view.

OMFG, I -=totally=- agree with you... 9 of 10 times, I get a MORON for a gunner, and I can't accomplish ANYTHING.... I see like 10 infy to the right, and he's looking left and not even firing... I especially hate when i"m in the mi-28, and they aren't CONSTANTLY firing at areas to hit things they can't even see. WHen I'm a gunner in that thing, I"m just barely keeping that thing from overheating.. shooting blindly.. I get tons of kills just shooting at the ground around NME flags....

I have to TELL them to 'kkeep that cannon hot'... 'keep firing' etc... sheesh... then they wonder why we get owned by infy AT... I could give a crap less about stingers... the only thing I care about is jeeps/hummers and INFY... that's what the gunner is for.. to take care of infy and jeeps while I"m hovering to take a flag...

people that say the TV missile is the #1 weapon for gunner are retards..it's called the GUNNER position.. not the TV MISSILE POSITION... sheesh.. the TV missile is secondary, and should only be on when the pilot is positioning you to take out a tank or whatever...

it REALLY helps to be on a voice comm when you're flying...

The chopper is virtually unstoppable when you have a good pilot and a good gunner.. ther'es been whole maps where I haven't been shot down a single time.. and the gunner gets over 50-70 kills and well over 100 points.

I wonder if the HUD for the pilot.. the part that shows where the gunner is looking... is nerfed... because I'll swear that the gunner is even looking in teh same direction of the infy that I"m seeing, yet they don't fire.. WTF...

I know.. especially on maps like sharqi... the construction site.. there are many levels of the buildings, and many NMEs inside.. the cannon has mucho splash damage... so all they have to do is fire all over the bldgs... they don't have to see infy... just fire.. and avoid friendly tags... and whammo.. kills galore.. same with the flag just west of there on the hill.. with hte stingers... its' a bottleneck.. and a small area with lots of people... just fire at the enclosed flag area... and where you know the enemy spawn points are... and voila... lots of easy kills when you didn't even see the guys... blind firing with that thing nets me lots of kills.. especially at distance.


IMHO, mi-28 is best chopper...even though it's slow and sluggish....

I -love- hoooking up with a great gunner.. it's the most fun in the game for me.


my favorite is when you're approaching a gray flag... one that you know the NME just grayed.. and your dumbass gunner isn't even firing around the flag area to try to take out the NME.. next thing you know, before you can get there... BING, NME flag, and you have 5 AT spawn there while you're trying to recap.. all cause genius didn't fire the cannon.

I must agree, there tons of so blind gunners around.

When flying the chopper and you even hoover around slow and almost point the infantry to the gunner, he doesn't see them.

But they ain't all blind, had a few gunners who just shoot every living soul to hel down there, and me offcourse

yeah, I"ve played against gunners, and had gunners that just don't miss.. it's awesome... and really pisses me off when he's on the other team... :)

I cannot always blame a moron gunner for what I can see and they cannot. They could be using an older card with poor fps and draw where they actually may not be able to see better than you with a better performing card.

While I have had my fair share of poor gunners in my heli, sometimes I find it to be that they are using less modern machines and just cannot afford the latest and greatest.

on the contrary im usually the gunner and I almost always get an idiot pilot lol. I just usally choose not to fly. I hate the job they did on aircraft in this game. I perfer to stick to terra firma in this game (exceptions are made when my DPV occasionally goes careening over a cliff)

Yeah, I wondered if it was someone who had a POS puter and had the settings turned way down, but when I'm hovering 30 feet away from someone, and they STILL can't see them, then there's a problem..

if that is the case, it is because of the known bug when switching from TV to nose gun... supposedly, you must hit all 4 corners of the guns radius to correct this bug... top right...top left... bottom left... bottom right... then it is supposed to be back..

I've found that the cobra nose gun is sweet... the mi-28 nose gun is DEVASTATING.. and the z-10 blows goats...

no I dont tend to use the TV missle...its just that the guns power doesnt seem that great...Ive noticed that when im on the other end of the bullets too. I usually escape because I dont get hurt that much from it. If it was as powerful as the BH miniguns though we would all be screwed every time a cobra came around

The cobra gun is 20mm. I think it shoud be able to kill without having to put 100,000 rounds into someone. Splash damage is almost nill.

Yes, I know I get smoked A LOT by the mi-28 cannon... I get plinked a lot by the cobra nose gun too.. but not as much... and the z-10... well, like I already said, blows goats.


whenever I"ve gunned in the cobra, I have had decent luck with the nose gun.. not like a blackhawk, but still.. I hit a lot.
