Alt+F4 works wonders. Whenever I need to take an important call, it's what I always press. Of course, you can make the game pause whenever the PC hears the phone ring by going to My Computer\Local Disk\and deleting the WINDOWS folder. If that doesn't work, open the case and spit on the thing that has a big block of metal and a fan on it. It is the computer's hearing aid, and it needs some polishing.
