yeah, how many people play unranked servers now? not very manyOriginally posted by Room420hmmm..... nobody has said anything about ranks, this thread is about gameplay soooo...... oops, that post went out the window, huh?
topic for another thread "Should moded servers be allowed to keep their own ranks and points seperate from the vanilla ea servers". but like I said topic for another thread.
p.s.
rombaft
ok thanks thats what i thought. people just saw transport choppers in the notes and decided that is what was happening.
this thread has everything to do about ranks. why do you think people bh whore in the 1st place? its a great way to pad your stats. oops, out the windowComment

how many mods are out now? not very many. Lots of people play on unranked servers, as more mods come out that number will increase. That was the point of my comment about private servers holding their own rank. This thread is only about the gamplay change suggested, not your desire to gain rank.Originally posted by Wynterheartyeah, how many people play unranked servers now? not very many

Defense takes care of bh whores, I never seem to have much of an issue with them. Besides this isnt just about the bh its about vehicals in general.
Nowhere in this thread other then our two post has ranking points been discussed. Maybe in your quest to be cute you failed to realize that the others in this thread are concerned with the GAMEPLAY not the points. Should we make a poll for that too? It appears from the current response to this poll that more people like it the way it is so the comment about the mods was to give those that wish these changes hope that someone with the talent and skill to do so can make a mod for them. My post was clearly contributive to this thread as I explaind my vote and gave another option for those wishing a change, Yours on the other hand was a pointless humur attempt at my expense. Sooo why dont we shut this little window analogy, you can try to have a point, and everyone can get back to the topic at hand.Comment

They are going to tweak helicopters. I am guessing they will either prevent engineers from repairing them while on board, or they will require the helicopter to land before the caps can be counted, or maybe allow caps to happen faster when the chopper is on the ground...there are tons of ways they can "nerf" blackhawks while still maintaining balance.Comment

My beef isn't explicitly with vehicles taking flags - it's with most flags not having good, indoor space for opposing infantry to hide. Consider reality for just a moment, not as a rule but as a theoretical model.
If there is a section of a town in dispute, yes, tanks could be brought in to establish some level of superiority. However, the area wouldn't be secure (or "under control") until all opposing infantry elements are ferreted out of hiding places - which is something that most vehicles cannot do (which is correct). So you need infantry to go into the smaller spaces (tunnels, bunkers, buildings) to take out the other elements.
Think of Iraq - the US has vehicles all over certain "hot" areas but those areas remain notably insecure because the remaining infantry elements are hidden.
I think a similar idea should have been put into play here, but retro-fitting maps to support this would never work. One of the other posters made a good, related point - the Blackhawk should not be able to take a flag where there is enemy infantry still contesting it. The whole "6 people trumps 5 people for the flag cap" idea ruins defense. If the BH had to kill every single opposing player within flag range, and the enemy infantry had decent places to hide, then I think we'd all be happier.
I always liked Planetside's take, which involved greater benefits for taking a base but also a more involved undertaking to lay siege to one. It resulted in battles that progressed from air to armor to infantry combat until a given base was taken - you could never take a base, or even a tower, with a tank. And Planetside is arguably as, or more, vehicle-centric when compared to BF2.
BF's flag points are too liquid for my taste and hold little significance beyond ticket bleed. Tactically, strategically, that's lame.
Maybe rules could be put into place wherein after taking a flag, at least 1-2 troops must remain behind to defend it. If a flag is taken and then vacant for x seconds/minutes, it slips into neutrality again and the cap points are not awarded. This would prevent a BH or Jeep from hopping across the map nabbing points. And it would bind that lone tank to stay or have its flag-cap lost.
We might also consider awarding defenders - when a player stays within a controlled flag range for x minutes they get x points for defense.Comment

Code is alway logical and some things are always in written in the same sort of way.Originally posted by ozziegtDo you know how their code is written? It could be easy, it could not.
Explenation .
There are sugestion for making the capture area smaller, this is easy because it's 99.9999 % just a number they have to change .
Making the choppers impossible to capture flags is a bit more difficult , because they have to change a whole piece of code then, now they have a piece of code that makes that if a chopper is in the area it starts taking the flag, and also the people in the chopper even if they are outside the area but in the chopper, that is probably the same code as for every vihicle and now they have to split this up and make a total new part of code (get it?) .
Making that choppers can only take flags when they land is almost imposible becauuse it's realy hard to write what is landed and what is in the air, also because of the netcode, maybe you didn't know it, but when a chopper is hoovering like 10cm from the ground, some in the game will see it hoovering 10cm from ground, others 15 and for others it will be on the ground.
This is also the reason why sometimes you would swear you hit the thing but you missed like hell (see bug forumhere, nice video of it) .
CODE is logical, no chineesComment

excellent idea. The only problem I see is the servers with short spawn time. maybe they could extend the neutral flag time and shorten the time it takes a flag to go down. dont know just a thought.Originally posted by ||ass||variableIf there is a section of a town in dispute, yes, tanks could be brought in to establish some level of superiority. edit:
I am talking about for infantry as well as vehicals but this too would be a major gameplay change to me and thus left to the mods.Comment

Its hard to know how to vote in this poll, why no choice for NO AIR CAPTURES, i dont think i have ever met anyone that has much problem with ground vehicles doing it, as lets be honest if you park your tank on a flag a C4 charge is only a few seconds away, courtesy of a spawning Spec-Ops guy :) Plus the fact its rather hard to get a totally full APC, but theere usually 25 people waiting for the Black Hawk (they even TK each other to get in first
)
I suspect people will vote for an option they wouldnt normally choose given the choice anyway due to the VERY limited options (there 3 for leaving it, and one for an uneeded change
I havent voted due to lack of option for "NO HELICOPTER CAPTURES" someone make a more detailed (accurate) poll i can't be bothered
but more people will take part i think.

If they change it to where you can't cap in a vehicle, you are going to have to jump out of your tank to cap, only to have an enemy jump in it and kill you, that's not good for gameplay. However, I wouldn't mind them doing something about capping in a chopper, like making them land or make it take longer to cap in a chopper. I don't think they should do anything about capping in ground vehicles though.Comment

I think this is what everyone wants, i havent seen a single person wanting them to stop the ground vehicles capping flags. This poll was clearly written by someone against the change that EA are bringing in next patch (1.03) where they ARE making it impossible to cap from the air :nerr:Originally posted by LeviathanIf they change it to where you can't cap in a vehicle, you are going to have to jump out of your tank to cap, only to have an enemy jump in it and kill you, that's not good for gameplay. Perhaps we should all just wait and see how it plays after the next patch, but as i see it, its a change with absolutely no drawbacks expect that the average score-per-hour of the BH whores will go down :laugh:Comment
