Yeah, 30 second respawn, now that would do the trick. Penalizing death with points would be too annoying to stomach. If I want to screw around, I don't want it to cost me points towards the unlocks. Excepting TKing of course.Comment

If you experiment on unranked servers that should resolve that problem. By making it +4 for a kill and -2 for a death, the time it takes to advance should not change much for anyone with an average kill ratio. Would actually shorten it considerably for those with good kill ratios. Those who hate the idea have not offered a solution to address this senario:Originally posted by Wreck0Yeah, 30 second respawn, now that would do the trick. Player 1 has 5 kills and 30 deaths. For simplicity, assume it is all assault infantry versus assault infantry and has no effect on flag captures. He receives 10 points when in reality, he cost his team a net 25 tickets (30 lost tickets on his team minus 5 lost tickets on opposing team for those in Rio Linda or West Palm Beach).
Player 2 has 4 kills and 0 deaths. He receives 8 points. He added a net 4 tickets to his team.
Player 1 was a major liability to his team yet receives more points than Player 2 who had a net positive effect. Anyone see the problem?Comment

exactly what I was thinking.Originally posted by teh_pwner_of_noobsBad idea. I would quickly hang up BF2 if I would get punished for being spawn raped 5 times in a row.Comment

Because it works fine as it is, there is no need for this.Originally posted by volklThose who hate the idea have not offered a solution to address this senario:

Player 2 has 4 kills and 0 deaths.

I see where you're coming from, but it would just be too annoying. Being spawn camped and losing points for it as well, that's just too much grief. But then, I see nothing wrong with everyone moving to unranked servers with global unlocks. I really like my DAO-12, and just want to have fun. Having my side care about winning is a bonus.
The commander gets a 2x bonus for winning. If you want to encourage good team play, maybe you can do it with a team bonus. Not 2x, but maybe 1.2x, or just 10 points or something. But negative points? Nah. Better to reward good play than punish bad play.
Of course, the problem of being stuck with a team that doesn't care would still be there, and even have more repercussions than before in a sense. But punishing death is too extreme just to solve this problem.Comment

The only thing I wish that would be changed for points would be as follows. At the end of the round deaths are subtracted from kills and the difference of the two is added in points ex. 24 kills 12 deaths = +12points 8 kills 10 deaths = -2 points. I dont think im the only one who hates being beaten by a blackhawk whore who is 3 and 12 when i am 26 and 3. And I know teamwork is apart of the game but im am fully helping the team by keeping tanks and other amored vehicles to a minimum.Comment

Personally, i dont think your idea will work out, since I believe that would discourage newbies from playing the game. Honestly anyone who just started to play the game where their score in the negative, probably would just quit playing the game. Besides, why should I be punished -1, when I just spawned, I get nailed from enemy arty??, it doesnt make any sense since I didnt have any intentions of dying as most ppl who play the game.
I've played a number of matches, where I had a few players who k/d ratio was 1:2 and worse, and really I dont think they affecting the team in the negative way, as long as they were having fun, is all that matters. I dont think they would be having fun, for every death, they would get punished for it, and I dont think anybody in their right mind would either.Comment

If there was points taken away for deaths, then no one would do much in game. it would become BF2: Sniper Heaven.
People just laying back and doing nothing but looking for others in their sniper scope. Or people just standing around waiting for armor. So they could get a lot of points before they get some taken away for dieing.
It just wouldn't be fun.Comment

If you tihnk you shoudlg et -1 everytime you die, then your a retart and should go play another game... "Hide and Go Seek - Now on PC, no violence and hiding is good, no action either, coem and get your copy of "Hide and Go Seek - PC Version Today".
Anyway, BF2 is meant to be an intense shooter, its hard enough making a game thats intense. But when you punish guys for trying to make an intense "FUN" game, then its gonna turn into another forgotten trash game.Comment
