I managed to shoot down a jet with the PKM yesterday......Of course I was actually aiming for the soldier 10ft away (who incidentally didn't register a single hit)

Got to love that bullet spread

thats the whole point...the saw, squad automatic weapon, is deisgned to be very powerful, accurate at short bursts, but to have a much larger spread when depressed for a long period of time, given yes, that norty word, COVERING FIRE.

      It has 2 roles.

if u goto this site and click on the very bottom weapon...you will get the idea of what a saw can do. http://www.fighterweapons.com/share/Videos/

Because obviously I've played them easily enough in the past to know their strengths and weaknesses. And not EVERYTHING has to be taken literally

If you keep doing the same test you will see the shots land randomly all over the place. All in game guns have this random effect to an extent but the support gun has it to a far larger degree. Reducing this effect while in prone after a slight delay (maybe 1 second) will just make the guns more fun to use.
I don't think it requires much of an improvement just a little bit more accuracy.

They are not useless at the moment and you will get kills if you practice how to use them but this practice is more about the best situation to use them in rather than aiming or fire control practice due to the very high random variation on shots.

          Quoted for f*cking truth.

This is WHY the support guns need more accuracy when prone. If I take the time to line up my first shot using iron sights then the bullet BETTER go there. Does it? F*ck no.

All of you saying "practice more" are missing the damn point. The first shot is ALWAYS inaccurate no matter what. That's why we want more accuracy. Yes, you can still kill with it in its current state. I think the damage is fine relative to all the other pea shooters (errr infantry guns) but, the prone iron sight accuracy has got to be raised. I could care less if accuracy goes to hell on full auto I just want my first shot to HIT when I take the time to line up.

Also burst shooting means very little. You may as well go full auto because of how damn inaccurate the gun is. The bullet spread is so damn random I only reserve burst shooting for the SAW and Type 95 since their muzzle flashes are so big. The Type 95 has TERRIBLE iron sights as well. If you are shooting at a springting enemy you lose sight of him way too easily.

The PKM seems to have the best balance btw easy to use iron sights and low muzzle flash.

On stalemate (the one with lots of hilly woods and swamps) last night I hid in the woods just above and behind one of our bases.

Enemy would come in, sneak around the outer wall and then rush the flag when it looked clear.

So I set up with the PKM in the trees a little way up the hill. Aimed dead centre target, burst firing. It would take 4-5 bursts to take someone down. That was at quite a close distance.

The second round I spawned as an assault by mistake (why doesn't it spawn as the class used in the last round????). So I used the same tactics and my kill count was twice as high.

Two three round bursts would kill them. Single shot was even better. The first shot always seemed to go where it's aimed. This is definately NOT the case with the PKM.

Just an accurate first and second shot would help

justinol, Fishw0rk and sbikerbud are in the know. Though I specifically refer to the PKM, as that's my only unlock and I've used it a fair bit. The bullet displacement is fairly severe that it does come into the realm of luck a lot, on whether you hit. What they're saying is true.

And like a few others have said, it's quite shocking when you're standing, not using the iron sights and unloading into a guy 5 meters away and it takes longer to kill him than a rifle. You can just feel the bullets going all around him, rather than hitting. Usually you are the one to die first.

It's more like, prone+ use xhair = only way to get reasonable results. But perhaps the SAW is more accurate than the PKM.

During this entire thread, all I have read is inaccurate this and that, but at what range is Support being used by those that claim they want more accuracy? Are the ranges reasonable or are you just seeing a shadow of a player the size of an ant and firing on him with the expectation of hitting him 4/7 tries?

all these people complaining are just a bunch of lone wolves that wanna pwn with the LMG everywhere

Look I'm 1st place on the light machine gun leaderboard but unlike the top players in assault rifle/nade launcher, you HAVE to stay with the pack! You're all running around thinking because you got 130 rounds you're gonna kill 8 guys in a row it does not work that way whatsoever. I'm almost always with the pack that's why it's called support, you're supposed to SUPPORT the infantry. It isn't called the One Man Army class....it's SUPPORT class. I don't even hear anybody mentioning anything about how the support class has infinite grenades anyways either? Isn't that whoreish enough? Unlimited freakin' grenades come on.

I do like the 2.5 seconds to prone thing though since I came from Day of Defeat to BF2. In my entire time playing DoD I only ever saw 1 other person utilize proning to it's fullest potential, I could beat kar whores so bad even when they wall hacked it didn't matter...if this game didn't have insta prone I would just be wiping the floor with people.

to be given an ar is an achievment. they are meant to be one man squads who provide cover for advancing squad members, they will tear apart people and make loadsa smoke etc, but in bf2....its a bb gun?

The problem is tho, is forming up a decent squad. Any advice for how to setup and or lead a good squad? Also, try to not aim AT the person, then maybe more of your bullets will hit.

Well, I am a lone wolf unless my Planetside friends log on and then we squad and use Teamspeak. The problem with squadding for me is that it is a public server and I have VOIP turned off since it sucks. I find using Teamspeak to be a lot clearer than using VOIP. Also, there are so many players visiting on a server, you are bound to not see the same player twice. That means every night having to group with someone and having to deal with their possible nonsense style of gameplay.

Also, most of the time I just feel more comfortable with the peace of my ears versus hearing some stranger coming over my headset trying to make me adjust to their style of gaming. That hurts my gameplay and my scoring and overall performance.

How many times have you publically squadded with someone and hear this aggrivating voice coming over your speakers or headset and the guy will not STFU? This was another reason I have VOIP turned off permanently.

If I don't know you as a regular on my server from seeing your name over and over again night after night, I for certain do not want to squad with you and more over do not want to hear your voice in my ears.

My only advice is to try and find the regulars on your server and squad with them and hope they accept your invite.

Well I'd say leave the support weapons. All you people who say its terribly inaccurate should learn to use the weapon better. As it stands anyone with knowledge or very good aim would be able to use the weapon to its fullest potential. In karkand I've seen guys on the U.S side pick off our guys trying to flank them. There was easily 7 or 8 kills.

Put it this way, if someone aimbotted with the weapon you'd get whored with any weapon. At that point it truely shows how powerful the weapon is.

I like the weapons the way they are. They're accurate enough. Anymore and you wouldn't be able to step foot into open spaces.

Nah, DICE just didnt hav the brains to make the bipods, so they firgured, since we r lazy bastards, lets just leave them nerfed...Now look at Grey Matters, the developers of Call of Duty: UO, they thought, well, maybe we could make bipods so heavy MGs could be carried around and be used, and to balance things, they need to sacrifice 3 seconds to set up the MG. Now theres a great idea....

i think they should make the accuracy a little better when prone but also give the option to set it up in a window or ledge, with the limited angle of fire, but make it really accurate.

that would solve a lot of problems.
