Crash to Desktop on startup on LCD, works on CRT

I've been able to play fine since release with my 17" CRT monitor, but today I decided to try out my friend's Samsung 930b, and BF2 crashes to desktop on startup after a few screen flashes. This is very similar to what I see described in other posts here. I don't have a solution, and I haven't seen one, most people seem to think it's an inadequate video card, but this may not be the case. I have a 6800GT and a gig of ram, I've played just fine at max settings at 1024x768 since I got the game, problems only start when I use the LCD.

I use the exact same LCD and have never had an issue. I use it full digital I don't use analog signals.

Change your refresh rate the refresh rate on you CRT may be higher, only a thought give it ago.

refresh rate. my sync master runs at 60hz at 1280x1024 no problems.

I'm on DVI, I've tried 60 and 75Hz at 1280x1240 and 1024x768, can't get into the game.

1280x960 in game @60Hz. Never a problem. 1280x1024@60Hz Desktop.

open your nvidia control panel, under tools, get it to detect a moniter, it should see it and maybe ask for a windows cd to load a driver....yes monitors like drivers too
also make sure you have display mode timing set to "auto detect"

Monitor drivers set, there's no auto-detect for timing that I can see, and it still doesn't work

had the same problem, its EA's crappy programming that doesnt detect that you changed your monitor so you gotta do a fresh reinstall. I tried all the solutions above too.

i have the same problem with my LCD 17" when i play i get a few screen flashes of the game and then i get VPU Recovery Error (it bring me to the desktop)

I do have a CRT monitor but its even older then my LCD. should i try that?

Go to "your documents"/bf2/profiles/default/video.con
look in there and see if it is calling for a resolution or refresh rate the new monitor does not support if it is change to a rate or resolution your new monitor supports!!!

The old monitors settings were stored here and do not get changed when you change things around.

I'll try that. I did do a fresh install but I didn't delete my profiles and whatnot.

Edit: I've also discovered that GTA: San Andreas doesn't work, so I suppose it's not just a problem with BF2. Normally when GTA starts up it allows you to select an adapter and resolution, but that doesn't even come up now.

Ok, I got it with BF2. I tried setting the stuff manually as NeonTarget suggested, but that didn't work. So I took it a step further and renamed the Battlefield 2 folder in My Documents.

Search this forum, theres 2 threads that had the same problem and both of them made it work with a different solution.
