Thank you, that is what I was looking for...

You'd think they'd document this crap in a manual...

I was playing last night and decided to field test my theory. I correctly predicted 3 of 3 arty strikes at FuShe. I was able to get well enough away to not get hit, but still be right near it.

You must: listen closely. It sounds like arty coming down, but without the explosion and quieter. The louder it is, the closer you are to the center of it. Basically, if you hear this, run like hell.

does artillary ever strike the same place twice? (in the same arty strike) becuase I have an inkling that it doesn't. If it doesn't then you could stay in the arty zone and just move to the place where a shell just landed and wait it out.

For some reason I am able to hear artillary firing better than mos tof my teamates, I guess I have good headphones. But I always assume that it is for me, so when I hear it, I give the "run like hell" call and everyone scatters away from the hot zone. Reserve your sprint mode for these occasions :)

I've watched it as commander, and I don't think so. HOWEVER, it doesn't take a direct hit for it to kill infantry.

Thanks for the feedback people! As far as half-wits running into their own commander’s artillery, I agree, it happens. But, then again, none of the above tips are rock-solid. Artillery is human controlled and thus ultimately unpredictable. Having said that, if you see enemy tanks inexplicably backing away from your flag, APCs circling at a distance and enemy troops ducking for cover – even if some of them seem happy just to stand around in the open – it might be time to start considering that something might be up. Where artillery is concerned it certainly better to be safe than blown 100 meters into the air, as the saying goes.

With regard to artillery never hitting the same place twice, I’m not 100% sure whether it does or not but I know for a fact that you can be killed trying to outsmart it by standing where a shell has already struck (I’ve tried it more than once). As Dr. Bullet suggested, the shells often fall close enough together that you’ll be killed by the splash damage.

These are great tips. I have same kind of sense....Sometimes after capping a flag or in similar situations you mentioned I shout "Arty!" to my squad and just moments after the strike comes. Maybe I play too much too.

Good point Jon. I also have a sense about when to hit the trail. It's not because of any sound either. Just a feeling I need to be moving on.

I've tried a quick console message like "incoming arty" and moving on but since no-one listens I just get out of the area as quickly as possible.

I can't say it's perfect but for most of the time the rounds start coming in just after I get to safety.

I got that sense too. Buddy of mine who plays in same room at times keeps asking how I know... I can't say that I even know how...

All I know is that even when I am not playing, I sorta hear artillery sounds still... Usually taking showers, or watering lawn, or taking a leak... Any time water is running... Ya it's weird. I been playing too much lately..

id say my arty sense is about 60-70% accurate. for karkand only though. i cant sense as well for other maps. maybe its the assload of time ive spent on karkand determining the scenarios for which most commanders use arty.

not to get off topic, but when a squad is highlighted in the commanders screen and the commander uses VOIP does all members of that squad hear him? Also is there any way for a commander to VOIP to all team members, or all squads?

FiveString, much as that is way off topic, I think you'll find that only squad leaders can ever hear the commander, whether you select a specific squad or not. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

yeah its automatic, or you can right click as a commander on the squads number, then click the Move! Artillery! option
