      For us old timers that were around when the fps generation was born, I boldly and adamantly tell you, "Kiss my white as John Carmacks ass". Quake was the original, the catalyst for all the fps team games you play today (at least in a true 3d world, for our Doom and Duke3d days were at best 2 1/2D graphics). Netquake begat Quakeworld (and the very first problems with trying to run a world wide rank based system for those that remember the days of trying to log into quakeworld ranking before it was scraped). This was the orginator of online clan based competition on the large scale.

      Yes this is just a rant, but a very good one, respect your roots! =)

        I like vehicle maps but have more fun where it's more infantry V infantry focused. To say it's like quake is total crap - CS:Source maybe but even that is insulting. BF2 is loads better.

        But I agree with the OP, some maps are too vehicle dependant.
        Maps like Karkland take away the element of having to drive for miles just to die, rinse and repeat. Besides look at peoples ratio's in the ranks. It's easy to get a good kill ratio in armour or in a plane. Try doing it on foot that separates the men from the boys.

        People who specialise in infantry and get 1:1 kill ratio or better are worth 10 point-whores in armour or planes.

          I agree with the poster. Tanks/apc's dont belong in 16 player muush, and karkand type maps. _note the 16 player. I'd rather see more humvees then armor.
          But it is in fact popular, hence Spec. Ops expack comming out in a few months.

            I wouldn't mind playing some of the maps with vehicles removed - provided that the sprint timer was increased.

            Infantry battles are really great in this game.

              Meh I was there, played em all, surely I wasnt very old but I did play em, I just always disliked Quake. Wasn't as much into FPS back then as I was to flight sims (Yeah i know ) UT was the first game that really set me into FPS, sure it was fun playing doom and duke bashing the warthogs, but UT was my first love in the FPS genre

                I seem to remember wolfenstien, spear of destiny, and duke nukem before quake :P. and of course we cannot ever forget barneystien!

                  Well, wolf was basicaly an expansion to doom (same engine), spear of what? and I said Duke. I was referring to the first true 3d fps game, one that also basically started the online competition that thrives today.
