Joysticks: better or not?

Ok thanks ya I love it it is sooo much easier to do rolls and manuever easier with it. I still like to fly heli's with mouse and keyboard cause i notice it is much easier to control and land in a hurry with out crashing.

One question on the logitech what is the throttle looking thing for in front goes minus to plus (-+)? Also what are your buttons set at...

I set mine like this

trigger=guns
left thumb= missle
top middle button...throttle
right bottom is set for flares
left bottom=switch weapons

i dont use the very bottom buttons for anything..

I found that it is about the same or better to fly a heli with a mouse, however the plane is much better with the joystick. But planes are boring anyway, so i stick with the mouse. Plus I dont have to switch everytime which can get very annoying.

I use the Saitek Cyborg EVO holy, except I have the wired variety. The head of that joystick is adjustable, as is the handrest. It's a good stick. I'd be a little nervous about getting a wireless, as I've heard you can get some lag issues and such from that. Plus it'd be a drag having a fully loaded BH when your batteries decided to give up the goat.

Someone asked about the throttle on a Logitech. I know that in BF, a portion of the throttle is reserved for reverse thrust. So if you hop in a plane on the runway with what you think may be 0 throttle, you'll find yourself starting to roll backwards (or beginning to hover). You can still use the keyboard controls for thrust instead, of course. As a chopper pilot, I have both ways enabled and usually use the keyboard for my throttle and the joystick's throttle as sort of a hover trim mechanism. So that if I let go of my keyboard throttle controls, I sit in a dead level hover.

Hats off to use guys that use a keyboard for heli flight, I sure don't think I could do it. I still don't think I could do all I can do now in a heli with just the keyboard though.

i dont have the money for a joystick lol..i can fly lot better then a lot of people useing mouse but them people who are way better in jets are deffffff useing a joystick

I use joystick, Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro.

Joystick gives you better control and you can throttle correctly. Sometimes I'm using keys, that works too.

i have the same joystick and i LOVE it.

i use joystick for both planes/heli's because i used to fly stuff in flight simulator 2004, so it had become instinct for me since i learned to fly on there

I bought a logitech joystick "extreme 3d Pro Twist Handle"

-Seems good I can do barrel rolls very easy... heli is kinda diff to control.

Do you all like mouse better or joysticks?
Does anyone have this same joystick, and if so how's it perform?

i have the exact same joy stick. i find it easier to put the movement controls on the joystick, and the thrust and flares ont eh keyboard. keyboard is easier to hover with, but the mouse is hard to steer with.

yesturday i setup my ps2 controller that i have on a usb converter for flying the jets and yeah its brilliant.

Took a bit of fiddlingt tho in the end i set it so the right stick just works up and down as a throttle and the side buttons as the rudder to turn left and right. The left stick i left for pitching up and down and left and right.

I'm still no l33t pilot but it sure makes it a lot easier :)

BF2 uses all joysticks that Windows supports, were it usb or game port one. You need to configure your settings manually, just move the stick or press buttons when game asks you to do so. Get a stick that has throttle and rudder controls.

Take your time finetuning pitch and yaw settings and testing them on local server. Find the settings you like and you'll notice the difference.

Well i have a Saitek Cyborg EVO (with wire). It is amazing brillient for planes and perfect for choppers. just takes a bit of practice with the choppers, imo it is def worth getting a joystick.

Yup, got the same stick & it pwns for jets & helos. I also got a bit of software called AutoHotKey (Here) and I wrote a script for it to allow the joystick HAT switch to be used for mouselook mode while flying with the stick, very cool

without a joystick the planes and choppers just dont feel right. I dunno maybe its because im a pilot in real life and been flight simming for 10+ years, im just so used to planes flying how they are supposed to. I have a Saitek, which in my opinion are the best joysticks because they are cheap and last for years and have tons of buttons, thrust, and other options.
