    CTD Error

Hmmm, i followed the beta tutorial, but it CTD's when i click "Join Game". It all loads up (geometry etc). I even made a really simple one - just flat, textured surface with two spawn points connected to two flags, different teams etc, yet it still crashes.

Any ideas? I would really appreciate any help you can give!

Do you have one of the outer heightmaps active?
I belive if one is but not textured it will crash.
just deactivate them if they are.

I have the exact same problem. Followed the tutorial but it still crashes. Tried to create as simple map as possible (no textures, two control points, one for both teams) but with no luck.

I've made sure no surrounding textures are included, made a dead simple map, 2 control points with spawns. Painted the ground with textures etc. I do, however get a CTD when trying to join.

I have also done the "package mod" thing in the mod-menu.
What else can there be? How do I check outer heightmaps?

Thats what LexLuther suggested. It didnt quite work for me, but it might for some of you.

You ARE creating a server to try it right? Because it wont work in single player thanks to bots....

                Yep... a local one.
No idea what could be wrong... tried to think of everything, but no...
Hmmm, perhaps if someone could write up the _complete_ way of saving it all?
First I use terraineditor to make the terrain, then switch to leveleditor and add the spawnstuff, and then save all, and package mod.

After that I try to run it. Also I've made sure the Surrounding Textures are gray.

Alright, i think i got it. I have it from a reliable source that a number of people with this exact problem have fixed it by (in this exact order...)

                  - Totally uninstalling BF2, including all subfolders, even the stuff in My Docs (though you can back it up, you're profile at least, im sure).
                  - Reinstall game - NOT THE PATCH
                  - Reinstall the Editor
                  - Reinstall the Patch

Lawrence said that the maps we make wont work till the 1.03 patch somewhere, so this may be why - due ot a conflict in versions of some sorts, but i cant imagine why it works for most people, just not us few. Oh well, i'm trying it now. I dont advise the rest of you do till i'm done, because if it doesnt work, it'll just be a big waste of time. I'll definately come back to this thread and post if it does (and almost certainly if it doesnt, too).

                  Fingers crossed, everyone!

                    I tried it. No luck.
Something else which may be of interest is the fact that I tried a map that someone got to work on his machine. On mine the CTD issue remained.

Sorry to followup on myself, but THIS is interesting.

I sent my map to someone, and HE could run it fine.
This means the map is not to blame, but the problem has something to do with our software.

Bugger. I was afraid that may be the case. Anyone know if/where BF2 dumps its debug files after a crash?

I just got word about some lightmap zip-files that should be placed in /bf2editor/ trying it now, but have little faith.

                          EEEEEEDDDIIITTT: nope, no luck.
