1280x1024 - how?

I just got a new 19" TFT, so now I can use 1280x1024 vs. 1024x768 before.

BUT, I installed BF2 before installing the new screen and now I'm unable to select 1280x1024 in BF2 options - how do I enable it?

BF2 only supports 1280x960. Supposedly you can alter the shortcut or something to force BF2 to start at 1280x1024, but I've never done it. You can definitely find th e procedure with the Search tool. I like 1280x960 with my 19" LCD. It looks great and plays good.

For example, one of the most commonly requested commands is to run BF2 in 1280x1024 resolution (or another custom resolution) - particularly for LCD displays which display the best image at their native resolution. To do this, change your command line to look like this:

"C:\Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1280 +szy 1024

using that command lines doesnt help me. I don't know what im doing wrong. I have a 17inch lcd with native 1280x1024

That command line works, I use it. It won't register in the video settings in BF2 (in case you're looking for it to appear in your list of resolutions) but the game will be in that resolution. The shortcut alter simply overides the settings you make in game.

EDIT: This won't work for everyone

You must alter the first part - The part in the " " - so that it coincides with the directory on your computer in which BF2 resides. The one they put on tweak guides is just a default command line -- it, like everything with this game, needs tweaking.

Mines native 1280x1024 and works fine on 1280x960. Why do you feel you need 1280x1024. Oh and it should work, but it won't show up in BF2 as it's unsupported, but it is running at 1280x1024.

Sounds great. But I saved some cash and got a 6600GT. Will I notice a substantial perfoamance loss, going from 1024x786 to 1280x1024 ?

I have very little performance loss, but I play on a 6800 GT with 4x AA on, so I don't know how you'll fair. Good luck though and please post back your results when you get them.

About 6fps loss with a 6600gt from 1024 to 1280.

Wow, only that much loss? But what kind of performance do they get in the first place? I suppose I ought to look at the article lol.

EDIT: Ok, I looked at the charts and I don't believe them for my GT at least. I get better performance than that. Do they represent the average fps or the peak? Psh, I peak at around 90-100 and stay in the high 30s-low 70s when playing a map, and that's with 4x AA on at a forced 1280 x 1024.

They're average FPS and you also have to take into account the rig they run the tests on. You may have a better and or more compatible platform, although they tend to overdue the test rigs so the cards don't become bottlenecked by another component. What are your specs tomster?
