help me become a tank whore

here's what i usually do:

*i hop in a tank and go around the map looking for people to kill. however, i rarely find them (say, in a map like songhua stalemate) and therefore, not enough kills/points for me.

*if i do try to cap a flag (while circling around the map), i don't last for more than 10 seconds. usually, there are one or two AT guys around the base plus one of those AA missiles (sorry i don't know the name) plus a BH will come etc. etc. etc.

how do i get a bunch of points (like 30 and above) while in a tank? do i pick a base and defend? should i NEVER try to cap an enemy base? should i follow other tanks around? should i go near an enemy base (but not cap it) and just keep firing hoping i'll hit someone? any tips from you tank experts would be much appreciated. and yes, i do play as an engineer so i can repair my own tank.

Play Strike at Karkand
Be USMC and pick engineer kit
Get in Tank/LAV
Drive up to the cross roads (you don't even need to move)
Pick off MEC units crossing from spawn or just waiting to die
When DMGed, repair and repeat

here's some suggestions:

1) Play on infantry maps: karkand, sharqi, mastuur

2) Don't bother capping flags. You can get the same points with 2 kills and you'll get C4'd less often.

3) Don't stop moving unless you need to repair. If you need to repair, get out of the area completely.

4) If you can't get repaired in-time, die with the tank and spawn where the tank spawns.

5) Use the machine gun more than anything

6) Create a squad and lock it, then request supply drops for repairs (again, out of the area)

or an alternative is to get out of the tank and hunt down the AT guys when u get fired on. this only applies to the larger, non-urban maps, tho. also, if ur afraid of somebody taking your tank while ur gone, plant a couple mines around it. when ur ready to get back in, remove the mines with your wrench and ur good to go.

DON'T CAP FLAGS W/ TANKS! You're just asking for it... most of the time there are buildings all around you or plenty of places for a lowly SpecOps to C4 you. If you must cap a base w/ a flag make sure that you've got a lot of infantry backup but just remember that infantry HATE tanks and you'll be their first target. If I'm in a tank whoring mood I'll find a nice place w/ a complete FOV and use the outside cam every so often just to make sure there isn't a SpecOps sneaking up on you.

P.S. Use smoke as much as you can..

I try to avoid flags with tight areas. When I do cap a flag I will sit in the gunners seat .. it gives me more maneuverability to spot out those Spec Ops or AT guys. (Watch out for sniper though)


Also, I will circle an enemy flag (without capping it) and just pick off enemies that respawn. A little cheap, but a good way to rack up some points.

ahh... i knew i was doing a bunch of things wrong!

first off, i should avoid playing in those large chinese maps. truly a waste of time.

second, i will now stop myself from entering enemy bases trying to cap a flag! i mean, sure it's tempting but i now know NOT to do it. before, i will usually circle around the area and will not see anyone moving. and now i'm thinking to myself "hehe... nobody's around... easy points for me." but, as soon as i enter (assuming i don't die immediately from mines) the base, there are a bunch of AT guys firing at me, n00b-ops laying c4s, snipers throwing claymores, etc. etc. etc. maybe i'm just unluck that, all of a sudden, they all decide to spawn at that location. :/

third, smokes. i will now make it my friend.

fourth, mouse sensitivity. i will now turn mine almost all the way up for faster spinning.

~oh yeah, since i've spent most of my tank time trying to cap flags, here's a tip - switch to third person view and KEEP MOVING the turret around as if you're still looking through the inside of the tank. those suicidal n00b-ops fall for it every time. as soon as they get close to you, hit 's' and smash them!

also, i mostly drive my tank BACKWARDS! what i've noticed is AT guys will do everything to hit you in the rear and because i'm driving my tank backwards, they're actually hitting the front of the tank and not the rear.

Well, just because your in a tank doesn't mean that your invincible. You have to pretty much stop in a tank just to actually find targets to destroy.

Yeah, if I feel the need to cap a flag because my tea is being raped elsewhere, hop in the topside gun and psin around lookin for them n00b ops. Still then, its pretty easy to get sniped or throw grenades on top to take you out.
