Seriously, I've just about given up. Some nights I can play for three or four hours straight without a problem. Some nights I can't play for more than thirty seconds without crashing. I play almost exclusively on the same four or five servers, so it's not a problem with the server I'm on. I'll be fine one night, crash constantly the next night, and be fine again the next night......all without changing a bloody thing in my computer.

I ran SpyBot, Ad-Aware, Zone Alarm's anti-spyware, and Zone Alarm's anti-virus, then updated to cat 5.10 drivers, and have been ok for about a week now. Of course, now that I say that, my computer is going to literally explode tonight when I launch the game....

If I can get it to run for two weeks without crashing, I'm going to try putting my Audigy back in. The onboard sound is ok, but it's not great.

Good Luck with your problem, Ben.
I am having similar troubles. I can play for 2 hours and then it crashes...other times 10 seconds . I have tried re-installing, on a diff HDD, ram Voltage, virus scans, spyware scan, defragging, lowering AGP to x4, all settings on low, about 7 diff drivers, monitoring voltage and temps and making a note of them...no problem there. I am getting no blue screens or anything...it just freezes and reboots. I actually have a thread going in this section too!

EVERY other program works fine including other games and even Half Life 2 on total max out detail.

All is left to try is updating my BIOS...if that fails then I'm going to have to grab a friend and steal his GFX card and RAM for a couple of days to see if they are the culprits.

Re: Random Reboots while Playing BF2

Well, it looks like my problem has been solved. I dont play any other games than Battlefield 2 ocassionally BFV. So I didnt know if it was crashing from hardware, software, what ever. I have spent 2 hours with ATI tech support, and they got me to download 3D Mark 05 and run it, 10 - 20 seconds in my pC crashes. So my new X800xl will be going back and i will be getting a new one.

This is good for Me, but I feel for the rest of you guys. It might be a good idea to start phoning tech support, both for video card, and send a ticket to EA. Dont take no for an answer. make them come up with a solution, or make them give you your money back. any video card that can play BF2 should be still on warranty.

best of luck to you guys
      Ben

It works for me off ranked servers. Although I didnt used to play many ranked server until today, when I got 1.03 patch. So it could be that....

Re: Random Reboots while Playing BF2

          Hey to all,

My problems are completely over, My issue wasn't a bad video card as I posted previously . It was my Power supply. I was running a crappy 460 Watt Macron Power supply, and I guess the load was too much to handle after adding the Ati X800Xl and two raptor 74 gb drives raided (stripe 0) I guess a pair of xeon proccessors will do that. So I have upgraded my case to an Antec titan 550, which has 550 watt EPS Power supply.

Ati had already given me a RMA number and were expecting it back because i had already tested and believed that the PSU was OK. I had Isolated just mainboard and video card on old 460 w PSU and it still crapped out. So I had borrowed a 400 w Sparkle PSU and allthough it didn't power every thing in the system, it did let me know that i needed a better Power supply. I have played at least 20 hours online and not a problem.

So now I can use the 460 watt PSU for electric shock theraphy on the DAMN cat. (just kidding)
Best of luck to the rest of you
          Ben

I use to experience this problem with several games, the conclusion me and a friend came to (he previously had the same problem) is that the powersupply is being overtaxed. So, I up'd my power supply to a 550W and now I have no random reboots what-so-ever.
